I bought my '64 Riv. a year ago last June. It's a very dependable car, but needs a rebuild on the 425 one of these days. I've just turned over 142,000 and I am sure there has been no major work done on the engine. I burn a little oil, lifters are a little noisy, and I have those annoying oil drips all over the garage floor. I am an ROA member, and have gathered from that message board, that rebuilding a nailhead isn't necessarily for your average gearhead. Can anyone give me an idea where I can get the motor rebuilt in the central Illinois area? How much should I be prepared to fork out for a quality rebuild? What is so different about rebuilding a nailhead, anyway?:Do No:

The only thing I've been told is make sure the front cam bearing is in right so holes for oil flow line up, and don't cut heads for hardened seats as some machine shops cut into water jacket.

Nothing other than the price of the parts. If you've built other engines you shouldn't have any problems with the nailhead.

I spent about $1100 for a complete rebuild kit from Kanter, and about an additional $2500 for all labor and machine work. My 65 Riv runs like a dream! Make sure they align the fly wheel too!
