I just made a trip to the salvage yard just south of town here today (thanks to MLK for having the day off work!). I got a rebuildable style fuel pump off of a '59 electra with a nailhead in it. I was told that all '64 and '65s should have the rebuildable style AC fuel pump on them. Is the pump I got off of this '59 the same and the one that should have come on my '65 Skylark GS? I know the inlet and outlet are in the same place/configuration as the crimped style pump that was on my car when I got it. This rebuildable pump has two screws in the plate on the bottom that hold the bottom cover on it. The actuation arm is solid instead of a stamped steel piece like the crimped style pumps have.

I have a factory rebuilt, rebuildable fuel pump for sale for a 65. If you are interested?

Never usewd since rebuild. Includes box, and instructions.

You can get a rebuild kit for that pump for around $35 from a place I think it was called the antique auto cellar. If you need I can look up the web address for you.

Yes, I am interested in the fuel pump you have that is already rebuilt. E-mail me at stonesautomotive@juno.com and let me know how much you want for it. I know I can get a rebuild kit for the one I found (which looks just like the one in your picture), so if it is in line with the price of a rebuild kit I am interested.

I just purchased your fuel pump off of E-bay. I am also interested in that radiator hose if it is a lower hose for a 300v8 in a skylark. I can't quite tell by the angle you took the picture though. I have a '65 Special I could use it on.

Are their any tricks to replacing a fuel pump? Or do you just unbolt one, swap the lines over to the new and bolt it back up?

That is all you have to do except you do have to change the gasket between the pump and the engine as well.

When the non-rebuildable fuel pump went on my '66, it got noisy and each time (twice). It ran fine, but when you floored it it would start surging around 85 mph. I lost a race once because of that, how embarassing. It just fell flat on it's face as soon as I passed the guy.:af:

My experiences with them when they go bad is the diapraghm starts leaking fuel through it and it starts dumping fuel into the crankcase through the hole where the actuating arm goes and you see it as low oil pressure as the fuel dilutes the oil.
