Rearview Mirrors on 70' GS

I have a question about the outside rear view mirrors on the 70 GSs. I saw a few mirrors on Ebay and they were all silver/chrome colored, but the set on the car I'm buying has different ones and I'm wondering if they were replaced by someone along the line or if the car was made later in the model year and the 71 mirrors were used? The mirrors that we have are more aerodynamic looking and I'm guessing fiberglass, and are painted the same color as the car. I've seen 70s with both types, but it seems the majority have the metal looking mirrors. The VIN is 446370H263178, which I believe was later in the production year.

Also, while I'm thinking, our car is a burgundy color (Titan Red, I think it what it was called) with a white hardtop. I've never seen another one with this color scheme, and I know the car was run into a tree in the early 70s and repaired. Does this seem like a proper color scheme for the car? It has what looks like trim from a car that would have a vinyl top, where the color changes. I'm just wondering if the dealership took some "creative license" when they did the repairs and added new mirrors and changed the colors.

    Thanks,
    Scott

The mirrors that you are talking about are sport mirrors. I think they were only available on the GSX in 70. But is a possiblilty if you car was a late 70 it could have sport mirrors on it. They were available as a option in 71 and 72 on GS's and skylark customs.

To find the correct color originally for your car post the info off of the cowl tag. That will tell you the color, interior trim, and also the month the car was built!
