I have a 69 Skylark with the map light in the rearview mirror which is hazy on the sides. I purchase a rearview mirror from OPGI without the map light. I want to switch it from day to night mode and it broke...Chinese made I assume. Is it possible to switch the mirror glasses. I tried to take the rubber seal off the original mirror and will not come off the back part of the frame. Will the two rivets at the bottom allow the mirror to come apart?

The Parts Place inc. has the map light mirror complete to replace yours.
To answer your question ,no the rivets will not release the mirror.
The mirror is glued on to the frame.

Thanks, that helps a lot, look pretty simple also. I'll just have to remove the glass. The rear of mine looks great I even had the map light working before I replaced it. I hope the repo mirror is the same size.
I just came from the garage, I took my old mirror apart, pretty easy, also to the repo mirror apart. While I had it apart I rechecked the map light and it still works. All the old parts will fir the repo, not sure if I'll use the original rubber, I have the original in simple green. I'll get some glue tomorrow and glue it all back together. Any suggestions on type of glue.
    Thanks again for the video

The only problem is if you get a mirror cut it will not have the day/night function. There were a couple people around that would resilver your original glass.

I used her once. She was good. Unfortunately she retired a couple of years ago.

Is that how the day/night function is achieved? "Silvering"?

I need to replace the glass in mine. It's rather cloudy.

Thanks, I used clear epoxy glue , it comes with two injectors that you mix. Hopefully it will hold
final update: got home from work and installed the mirror, glue seems to be hold pretty solid. map light is also good.
Thanks again Brett, without the video I would probably be looking for someone to restore the mirror for me instead of time and $7.75 for the glue

You really do not need to glue the glass in as the rubber will hold it in place. If you feel you need an adhesive just a couple dabs of silicone for glass will do.
Brett, I think it is a special function in the glass itself.

I had to glue the metal backing to the rubber, even though I used my original rubber, I took it apart to soak in simple green and clean everything up.

Scott Winn hooked me up with a freshly "silvered" mirror last week. I guess he gets them done in batches, so I lucked out.

I'm trying a different approach and attempting this with the mirror still mounted in the car.

    Stay tuned...

What Nelson is saying is true. The factory glass is thicker at one edge and tapers down (look at the glass in Brett's pic). Flat mirror glass will still do a day night thing, but not as well and with glare. I think the factory glass may be laminated, too. Resilvered is the way to go.
