I am cleaning up the underside of my 65 lark GS and I noticed that there are some spacers on the rear springs that appear to be factory installed. They are not bolt on. They are swaged on with the ends going all the way around the spring. :Do No:
I know that the GS'es had heavy duty springs but shurly Buick did not 'cheap out' this way to do it. Tell me it aint so.:ball: :ball: :ball:

Are you sure that it's a spacer? It could be an insulator, mine has that on the top side of the spring, I'd guess to prevent metal to metal wear and noises.

Yup, gary, they are spacers, 2 on each spring, one to the front and one to the back, right in the middle. Like you said the insulators are on the top end and the bottom is just bolted to the rear end assembly with the big washer. I have a set of air lift air bags to put inside the springs once I get through cleaning them up and painting them.

Kinda sound like someone put spacers in there to help out a sagging ass end.

Well, I would think that too, except that these things are made in such a way that they almost had to be there when the springs were installed. They are swaged all the way around the springs and it is impossible to get them off without cutting them off. They are not absolutely tight to the springs, they can be tapped sideways up and down the springs but you cant get them off without cutting them off. I thought it might be some production glitch.
