This is going to be a stupid question, but what is the best way to remove the rear lower and upper seats on a 71 skylark??????????????
If the upper seat won't move, check the lower edge of the seat. There are usually 2 - 3/8 or 7/16 head bolts. If no one has ever taken out the rear seat these bolts can be present. The top of the seat has retaining "hooks" that hold some pressure to keep the part "seated" against the package tray. A firm upward tug will usually get the seat back out. Jim
Before removing the lower section, make sure to have made an appointment with your chiropractor. You won't be able to use the phone afterwords.
I have never had any problems getting the lower half off, but the upper half is a pain in the well you know. I have spent at least a good half hour at times trying to get the upper back off, but have fun doing it.
I think you actually have to put some downward pressure on the lower seat in addition to the backward pressure. Probably helps to push backwards on the top portion to get it unhooked too.
Howdy, There are 2 hooks that hold the bottom seat in, one on the left , one on the right, that are "G" shaped, they are welded to the floor. The seat has a horizontal steel wire hook that hooks into the opening of the "G" bracket. Just imagine sliding a pencil around the inside of the "G" thing. So kneel down facing the rear and push the bottom of the bottom seat down at the same time push it back with a LOT of force when it goes back far enough it has to be pulled up and foward towards you. All in a rowing motion down, back, up and out just like the "G". The back or the up right part has 2 bolts and 2 hooks holding it in. First remove the bolts located at the bottom of the seat when they are removed grab the bottom of the seat and push it up towards the roof you might have to put some pressure in the middle of the seat at the same time. After the first time you do it you'll see it is some what easy.
