Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any ideas for a 67 riviera rear end upgrade? Right now I don't have any engine upgrades but I'm just trying to get an idea in case I go for a 455 in the future. Thanks
The rear in that 67 should stand up to pretty much anything your throw at it. Aside from changing gear ratios theres not much you could do.
I have a 10 bolt 8.5 custom rear that is custom made for a 67 68 69 Riv. Looking for some one to try it out and get some feed back. Uses the original mounting points and brackets AND the BIG riv 30 spline bolt in axles. It can be upgraded to TRue trac posi and any gear ratio from 3.42 3.73 390 etc.
That is a nice rear end. hahah I'm more or less making a wish list though so I wouldn't be able to try it out. That does look pretty beefy. What would be a good gear ratio that wouldn't do too bad on an occasional freeway romp?
3.08 3.23 3.42 MAX For a driver especially if 455 is in the works reving is not going to be too high...You will have PLENTY of low end torque with any ratio...LOL. Jim
A little bit of some tire chirping and frame twisting with a 455 hmmm. Sweet. Where would be a good place to look for gears. I tend to find that there really are not many places that sell parts for 67s.
Chris, Monzaz (Jim) builds rears for a living. He can sell you anything you need and at the best price I would think.
I can't believe nobody's snatched this Frankenstein up yet. Talk about opening the door to possibilities! Devon
Larry, I appreciate the Positive...The 67 rears are tough to get the gears for that is the Buick 9 3/8" ring and NO aftermarket support. I do know where there are a few of these cars...BUT It is very unknown what condition and even what gears are in the rear. :9( That is why I offered this rear as you have any choice you want for the riv. Jim I had this Frankenstein up for a while but No real interest. I was going to try to mass produce them and even make it in a DANA 60 version...BUT they will not be real cheap...JUST real STRONG!!! LOL.
Not yet...lol I can also make it from a 14 bolt GM 9.5 BUT we will need aftermarket 33 spline moser axles instead of the stock 30 spline we can use with the 8.5 or the Dana 60 rear. Jim I never like to mass produce items that are not fully tested. So until there is A LOT more interest in these Frankenstein rears or we get a test subject...It will be on the back burner. Jim
how would you go about hooking it up to the Riv driveshaft flange? I might be willing to test it in my Riv for you
