rear end gear ratio ?

    just pullud the cover on my 70 gs 350 . ring gear has 1382723 42-13 im assuming 42 div 13 is 3.23 or something close . is that what it means??also heard mention of 8.2 , 8.5 , is there a easy way to id >>

    Yes 8.2 a 68-70 Buick only rear came in a 3.23 ratio.

    I do not recall a 8.5 coming with a 3.23 ratio.

    thnx . now i know how it works . didnt come with much taller gears , i guess???

    Higher numbers were available, but for a 70 GS 350 3.23 was the standard ratio unless you ordered economy, performance or trailer ratios.

    i havent checked my 71 lark custom , but odds are there the same then? the car on your avitar is b.a.

    71 models went to a 8.5 corporate rear.

    Your 71 Skylark Custom would have the 8.5 10 bolt. Odds are it is 2.56 ratio unless it came from the factory with the 350-4bbl. I believe the Canadian built cars came with 12 bolt rears. Have you looked closely at the rear on your 71?

    It might be 2.73 then. Code LLB (passenger side axle tube) would be the peg leg 2.73.

    2.56 to 3.23 might be worth the trouble , but 2.73 to 3.23 probaby not ??
