So I've searched, without any actual clarification, are there any direct donors(width/mounts) for a complete rear axle? I'm on a college kid budget and looking to up my rear end without shelling out to completely overhaul and posi or lsd my stock rear. Thanks in advance. Cars a 72 lark with 8.5 10bolt.
Nothing wrong with it, would love to keep it. But 2.56 pegleg is killing me. And by the time I'd get done getting new gears, carrier, etc. I'd be looking at a massive bill. Just about any A body rear from 64-72 will swap over, but you could do a lot worse than the 8.5. That is a good strong rear with bolt in axles. Just about anything else you find will probably be weaker and might have C clips. The 8.5 was used into the 90's so you could probably find a posi carrier and gears in the bone yard. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/posi.htm
