Does anyone know how rare a rear defrosr is on a 68 Riv GS, and if the grill is available anywhere. Possible the same for other makes or brands. Also, could someone post a pic, mine is missing, so at least I know what I'm looking for. Thanks for any help. John

Usually rear defrost are the same across many GM models. 65-70 are one unit and 71-76 are another. I think I have a pic on our site under Helpful Pics showing the difference.

The rear defroster grille for the 66-70 Rivs is not the same as most GM cars. It is much bigger, and curved to fit against the rear shelf. The grilles don't seem to be rare, but those I've seen seem to have been bleached by the sun. Toronados and Eldorados may use the same grille. They are usually shown in the Buick shop manual in the accessories section and in the fisher body manual for your year.

The rear dual outlet defroster and grill is specific to Riviera only. Most of the grill units did not survive sitting in full sun under the rear glass, and they usually cracked, distorted, or self destructed from the high heat. I replaced my original defroster and grill with an NOS unit from the Buick Farm a few years back. I've seen the odd unit come up on evilBay. No repro grill units are available as far as I know, so 'good used' may be your only source. If you manage to find a good one, take care and don't over tighten the mounting screws as the mounting lugs will crack and pull away from the grill (because they are so brittle from heat exposure, and age) ! They are probably about as rare as non AC gloveboxes, since most Rivieras came with AC !
LOL in your search John. :beer :TU:

    Thanks Randy!

I'm also looking for that same grill for my '68 Riv. I really haven't started an intense search, but I'm keeping my eyes open anywhere I go.

If anybody comes across a lead on one please email me: furiousgoat@hotmail.com
