Has similar stuff ever been factory installed on a Buick ? (may be a reproduction of something that never existed !) Looks nice on the picture, but seller don't ship outside US What are your thoughts ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33704&item=2456731117
Those are new wheels, and they look pretty nice. Considering the prices that 'plain-jane' '66 Skylark wheels command, I've been thinking of putting one in my car. It is a nice looking wheel, and real wood. The last simulated wood two spoke Riviera wheel with some cracks went for over 500. Dan
Don't remind me. About 8 years ago, I had one that was missing the center cap and horn bar, and I gave it away for free to a friend of mine. He won't tell me what he did with it. I was stupid.:spank:
Looks just like the Grant wheel I put on mine. Got it from Summit. With Buick cover and install kit which has hub and horn connectors it was around the same price as but it now. The wood is not as heavy as it looks. Grant 967-0
I don't know about the A bodies, but on the Riviera's you could. I know '65 for sure but I'm not sure about '66. The one I have in mine I had to make fit. Here's an old pix of mine::Brow:
I've seen that Grant do those woodgrip wheels in 13 1/2" for $62.00 and 15" for $118.00 + the adaptor and"Buick trishield horn button.I saw them in the Moon catalogue so might be cheaper from Grant direct, whilst not OEM they look the part. I haven't gripped one my self so don't know how good they are. I was thinking about getting one while my original was away getting repaired, but now i'm gettin the chrome chain one to stir up me mates!!!
They were available for the 64 - 66 Rivs, & 65-66 Wildcats and Electra's. Buick changed the steering column in 67 for crash worthiness so they do not fit there. Larry
Hey Larry, were those just another option or could you only get them on a GS? I always thought they were part of the GS option, but many pics I see from magazines from that era show the '66 Riv GS with a standard wheel. (BTW, I made mine fit my '67 by making the hub 1/8" shorter and adding a plastic turn signal cancel cam from a different car.) :Brow:
As far as I know it was a stand alone item. No GS Electra's ever or Wildcat's until 66. There is a different tri shield center cap for the Wildcat's and Electra's. Larry
I can speak with authority on something for a change. My father's brand new 66GS Riv had the standard three spoke plastic wheel so I can say for sure that a wood wheel was not included in the GS option. Even though that car had the strato-bench deluxe interior, head rests, and reclining passenger seat the wood wheel wasn't there. On the other hand the 66GS I have now has the wood wheel same as your does with two spokes. Since that's a restoration job am not sure whether it came with the car from the factory or not.
