When tightening the bolts on the rear end control arm bushings, should there be weight on the axle to avoid torsional preload on the rubber bushings? I am just not sure if the steel sleeve will turn with the up and down movement and find its at rest position . Also does anyone know the tightening torque specified? The application is a 68 skylark

I don't know the torque spec, but you do want to have the riding weight on the rear suspension before you tighten. Put stands under the axle tubes and let the car weight sit on that.

The suspension should definitely be loaded. If you torque the nut, the spec is 80 ft lbs. If you torque the bolt, 110 ft lbs. They give you the option in the Chassis manual.

Thanks for the information guys , I had tightened the rear to close to the correct torque yesterday afternoon but with the assembly hanging. Then last night I got to wondering if it was right and if it would lead to premature fatigue of the bushings. Thanks again.
