I need to put the carpet back in my 69 Wildcat. What I'm thinking is....

Dynamat first, or a bargain equivilant.
    Padding
    Then the carpet

Is this the right method? Is there a place online to get a good deal on the Dynamat? JC Whitney sales padding.

    Thanks!

    Dan,
The carpet that you are going to use does it have padding on the back of it from the factory?, or are you planning to use extra padding? If you have the carpet with the padding already on the back and you use the Dyna-Mat the only potential trouble spots that you might run into are around the kick panels and the door sills.Just remove the padding from the back of the carpet in those areas.
Make sure that you roll the Dyna Mat down real tight and get a good seal.
I was also advised to sand my floors and then use a primer if there is any surface rust or the Dyna mat will not stick to well or it will work itself loose.
I hope this helps. I Just wish the Dyna mat was not so expensive. :dollar: :dollar:

DynaMat is worth every penny. Probably the best mod I made to my car.

I sanded and primed my floor. Then I put down 2 coats of POR-15 and used their self-etching primer over that. Then the whole floor was sprayed with 3 coats of LizardSkin, which is a ceramic insulation/sound deadener. I haven't got the new carpet in yet but I don't think there will be any thickness problems from looking at it. The process was expensive but I plan on keeping my car. Hope this helps.

I did exactly what Carl described except the lizard skin... I then used Dyno-mat, good padding and Year One carpet. ( crappy) To make my new carpet fit snug I used a clothes steamer to dampen the material and it form-fitted correctly. It took just a day or two to dry as well.
I really didn't like the carpet I got from Year One and should have returned it.

I just read a article on that lizard skin, Man you really don't want any heat at all coming in the car! Lizard skin ,Por-15 and padding, I bet you get a good sound for your Stereo too boot! They say that the lizard skin is really good due to the fact that it can get into all the tight spaces in a car. How was it to work with it? After reading the article it sounds like the way too go!
Is it expensive? How much does it cover per gallon when shooting a car.
I see that clean up is really easy also just warm water and a little soap.
