What is the best Remedy to Free-UP Brake Drums that are Rusted in Place. The Car had been sitting Idle since 1970, and they haven't been removed since then. I want to inspect the Brakes and the Wheel Cylinders for leaks. The Wheels do Turn, but the Drums are Frozen in Place.

    I'm Open to Any/All Suggestions.

Lots of people use a torch to heat up the drums, then go to the big hammer. There are also pullers, (like pulley pullers, only bigger), but that might be hard to locate. If it has been sitting as long as you say, don't bother to check for leaks-the wheel cylinders are probably toast. Good luck, be careful with the torch and don't blow a Buick. Be careful with the hammer and don't break the drums.

I think it is possible to use a cut-off wheen and grind off the heads of the retainer pins. They are like nails, and hold the shoes in place from the back of the backing plate. Cut them off and remove the drum with the shoes in place.

    Happy wrenching,
