I just had a new exhaust system installed by Midas. Previously I had Poston Headers, Flowmasters and 2.5" pipes with a crossover. Headers gave me 3 things:
    1. Leaks
    2. Low Ground Clearance
    3. More leaks.

I had them on for 10 years and decided to go back to a more stock set up. I painted my stock manifolds and had Midas install true duals with RAVEN mufflers (Similar to Flowmasters). I lost a little above 4500RPM without the headers but I think my bottom end fattened up a little. The RAVEN;s sound excellent at Idle and full throttle and dont have that annoying resonance of my 2 chamber flowmasters. Anyway thought this might be good info for anyone looking for a stock setup. You should probably research the local Midas but mine did a bang up job!

    Shane,

THanks for the info on the mufflers! I just had the opposite done on my car. Full length headers, x pipe, and dynomaz mufflers installed. What a difference in sound and power!

Nothing like a new exhaust system to brighten your day:beer

Sorry to be a nay sayer. I had real bad luck with my local Midas. Took the 71GS in for brake adjustment, they sprayed brake fluid on it and then tried to convince me to do a $250 brake job. I was very pissed off, but kept my cool and told them I would get a second opinion.

Took the car over to Merlin's down the street with brake fluid all over it. Totally different story. They tinkered with the car for nearly an hour (the proportioning valve doesn't come back to center so the brake light stays on), bled the system, and fixed it up great. After all that, they didn't charge me a penny, the whole thing free of charge. One year later the brakes still work fine.

I won't use Midas ever again, at least that one.

I'm under the impression that their pipes don't last long based on my experience years ago with a 66 Riviera, although to be fair that car rusted pipes regularly above the back axle. Haven't had any exhaust work done there on a 'good' car in many years. Best of luck with your new system, hope it lasts for you.

I do need a new exhaust system on the 71gs350 because one of the pipes is rusted through. I'd really like a stainless steel system, but haven't got around to it. Any suggestions where to get a good system would be appreciated.

I've had a couple bad experiences with Midas. But they were isolated incidents at a specific location. I complained to their corporate folks and they took care of me by sending me to their best exhaust guy in the county. They fixed it up very nice. This was on my LeSabre.

    Shane,

I also installed a set of (RAVENS) on my GS, the Flowmasters had a couple of holes in them and it was time for new mufflers, and also the Flowmasters were getting much to loud for me. The Ravens sound excellent at Idle and full throttle they sound sweet, very happy with them.
