Most of the threads on this topic are 10+ years old, and knowing paint manufacturers change up their products periodically, I'd appreciate some current input. I have a 72 Skylark that I will be repainting all the interior metal pieces, e.g. pillar covers, steering column, lower dash, etc. The paint that's on there now is a low gloss black. Any suggestions on currently available rattle can options that would be a close match? I've experimented with Krylon's Fusion Satin and Rustoleum's Satin, and both as much glossier than the original. Any suggestions? Not trying for a 100% match, but something readily available in a can that is in the ballpark.

Looking into getting SEM paint. I find its the best on the market.

SEM paint works great for this.

I used that sem trim black paint rattle to match factory black dash/steering column areas. It works well

Got the SEM paint, looks like it will be a very good match. Question: Did you guys put a clear coat on top of it for the sake of durability? If so, what did you use? Don't want to alter the gloss.

These cars came out with a shot of lacquer paint on the interiors. I have to think the new SEM will at least match the durability of the 50 year old lacquer paint. Plus if it fades or gets scratched up, spray it again and it is brand new.

I didn’t clear coat or primer, I just cleaned and lightly sanded before top coat. It’s been a couple years and still looks great.
