Hey Guys, My wife bought me a new muscle car calender for my birthday because it has a GSX on it. I eagerly opened it up and started looking at all the great cars. When I got to the month with the GSX I was surprised to see that it was one of the "ultra rare '71 GSX convertibles produced". Give me a break!!!!!!! You would think the producers of these calenders would at least check the accuracy of their subjects before printing. Says it is owned by John Poundstone. Is he a member here? Randy
That's the trouble-the so called editors of these publications don't know what they're looking at and don't realize that the factory didn't produce what they thought. Go figure.
The Speedvision American Musclecar GS episode also prominently features Don McIntosh's 1 of 0 white '71 GSX 'vert.
I heard a rumor that there was a 1 of 1 Buick X-Camino produced. Anyone ever seen or heard anything about it? Duane, can you verify this rumor?
Ken, Yeah, that one was dealer installed with the help of 6 cars, and it was done right in my backyard. I guess someone was on a mission! The funny thing about the X-Camino was when we showed it at the BCA Nationals meet in Richmond Va. A bunch of Buick execs came by, and while checking it over said, "I don't remember ever building one of these." My wife Beth almost fell over, but told me they all seemed to like it. Duane Seriously though, There have been rumors of 2 "Dealer Installed" GSX convertibles. One was a 70 silver GS conv, and the other was a 72 pale yellow GS conv. As I said, they are only rumors, and I have never seen any paperwork for either car, and until I do, I won't believe either one is real. But even if proved legit, they would not be factory and would not be worth any more. They would just be another buick oddity.
Ken, They talked to Beth (I was not there.) and said it was cool, but at the time (1970) they would never have considered building a truck, as that was not part of the image they were trying to portray then. Duane
Duane...I saw last year a 1971 gsx that was a gs 455 with the gsx options installed by the dealer, with the paper work from the dealership.THe paperwork was a copy, not the orginal....fake?
GSX vert We saw one of those rare models at the Volo Museum last weekend. Granted they do say "its the car Buick should have Built" Done pretty well too. http://www.volocars.com/showroom/showroom_d.php?id=11215&nhs=0&make=buick&show= D.
Owen, I don't know what to tell you, but a GS with "Dealer installed stripes" is exactly that, a GS with a stripe kit, not a Factory GSX. When I was looking to buy my first X, I found a 71 GS 350 Stratomist Blue 4-speed coupe with Pearl White buckets. The original owner was offering it for sale, quite reluctantly. When she bought it new, she wanted a 71 GSX 350 4-speed without stripes. The salesman didn't know what to order, so he ordered a 71 GS 350 4-speed, with a factory installed rear spoiler, and included the GSX front grill emblem, dash emblem, and NOS decals. When I looked at the car, it had the regular GS 350 emblems on the fenders, with the dash emblem installed. The NOS decals and grill emblem were still in the trunk, along with ALL the original paperwork, from the day she ordered it. She got exactly what she wanted, a GSX without stripes, but according to the original paperwork it was a "Factory" GS 350 4-speed with the dealer purchased GSX parts included. I did not buy the car, and she was relieved that it was not worth the money asked, so she could keep it. But I'll tell ya, boy was that car pretty and solid, I still think about it all the time. Remember, The show ain't over until the fat lady sings! Duane
This car was also stratomist blue, but the dealer installed list included the rear spoiler, decals, hood tack, stripes, grille emblem..i thought it was strange.
This one puzzled us also, never seen a GS with the Buick emblem below it on the trunk lid o No: uzzled: http://www.volocars.com/showroom/showroom_d.php?id=10946&nhs=0&make=buick&show= D.

Had to read that caption at least 3 times to make sure I read it right...They even list the Owners name(Don't know if its real or not).... maybe we should call and see if he actually fed that line to the Editor. But hey.... Real or not, its still nicer than anything I'm driving right now :ball:
