Yep that was me, sitting in my lawn chair in my cargo shorts, folding my diapers hoping I didn't run out before the show was over. I had to get out of my lawn chair twice to stand my cry baby doll back up after some clowns dog tipped it over and tried to have his way with it. The owner didn't see it he was busy trying to explain to a guy that if his car hadn't been parked where it was his dog wouldn't have drug it's chain across the fender scratching the paint. lol

I always enjoy the humor and camaraderie on this board...

Gotta be 10-12 years ago at a Car show in High Springs Florida (15 miles from where I lived in Gainesville) that Rich Lassiter was attending but didn't bring a car to; I wasn't there but he calls me and asks me to bring the T-Regal. Now if you have ever walked a show with Lassiter you know he loves calling BS and embarrassing those who talk horsepoopy. Rich is entertaining to watch. Seems some guy is bragging his 440 Charger is the baddest street machine ever to come out of Detroit and unfortunately Lassiter heard him and asks him if he'll run a Detroit V-6 in front of everyone for $100. The guy is cornered and agrees so Lassiter calls me and I show up. The guy sees the T, suddenly remembers he has to be somewhere, packs up and leaves.

So many stories over the last 45 years.
At a show a judge laid his clipboard on the trunk of my HPOF 67 Caddy. I screamed at him "that's the original paint you idiot" and promptly threw his clipboard over the fence into a drainage ditch.
At a show got parked next to a 70 Cuda come back to find the owner set his bag of food and drink he just bought on the wing of my 72 Stage 1 so he could set up his chair. I moved them to his roof and he screams do you know what this is?
At a show come back to my Stage 1 to find two girls sitting on a front fender.
At a show some dad let his little kid jump up grab the top of the door with the window open, pull himself up so he could look into the car next to mine. Told the dad don't let him do that to mine.
At a show watched some idiot rev the crap out of his Corvette with side pipes spraying the two adjacent cars with black spots from the condensate.

And yes I have the dust brushes and soft cloths too!!!!!

I don't leave my car anymore!!!!

There are always numerous dogs at weekly cruise nights and shows here! It's never been an issue that i'm aware of. Obviously if your dog is jumping up on cars or aggressive with people then something needs to be said. Otherwise, so what! You have to expect people getting close to your car if you take it to these venues. I've had people stand and chat by my car while leaning on the door with hands hanging inside, which is kind of dumb in my opinion and disrespectful. I just walked over, opened the door and rolled up the window. They got the message. It's the chance you take in public areas.

Why do you hate them so much? I can say that I have many friends who own vintage cars and are good people. It is not machines that show a person's character, but his upbringing and environment. So I think this is a stupid judgment about all people. Yes, my grandfather and I like to rent classic cars once a month from my friend, who is engaged in collecting vintage vehicles https://www.drivedadscar.com. But your story amused me. I would be willing to read a few more of these, to be honest! :) Good luck, buddy. I hope you meet a normal person with a vintage car :)

hey Mikey, I think I was at that same show with you and Richard, he had me bring the faster street car for that same Mopar. I guess the Buicks' were ready and Mr. Mopar was no where to be found. He hauled ass out of there before he got caught!
Richard was pretty funny that day!

Holy thread revival batman!! (That's ok, I like this thread, just reread it all). I went to a car's and coffee event a couple weeks ago, took both my cars. Was over 2,000 cars there. I took my son who's 3, and we had to stop and pet every dog we passed. There must've been 100 of them. From puppies to elder dogs. Never saw a problem and it was a great time (other than me going back afterwards with a trailer to bring the green car home since it broke. Ahhh, that grumpy green bastard....) He probably liked the dogs more than the cars, but he had a great time and that's the seed I'm trying to plant so maybe, just maybe, we can keep the hobby alive.

I take my grandkids along whenever I can. Even though one of them likes the Gen 5 & 6 Camaros!

So the last show I went to I went as a spectator and not a participant. I left the Electra in the parking lot. Got a new ding in the door when Soccer Mom and her brood disgorged out of the minivan parked beside it. (Matched the paint up and left her a "thank you" note) That's life and just adds to the patina. It attracted a bit of a crowd, seems some people are actually starting to appreciate luxury cars. Got asked why it wasn't in the show, had to make a polite excuse. Anyway, it was interesting to just wander around and listen to all the "experts" as they schooled their entourages. I learned that AMC built 401s for Buick, and that Chrysler used Buick as an experimental test bed, that Oldsmobile was GM's testbed, and that Chevies were designed by consultants from Rolls Royce ("Payment" in return for being allowed to use the TurboHydramatic transmission) which is what made them better than everything else out there.
The disinformation out there is incredible. And sorry to say it Bob, a lot of the worst perpetrators were "old guys", I don't know if they were deliberately pulling someone's wire or if they actually believed the crap they were spewing.

The last show I was at there was a British car, designed in part by Caroll Shelby, with a 260 V8 Ford motor that was installed in part by using a sledge hammer on the bulkhead, fitted with a Ford Mustang gearbox and 2 barrel carb, scheduled for production in a factory that had capacity due to cancellation of a Volvo, and later sold to Chrysler who finished production until the supply of Ford engines ran out, branding it as an "American V8 power train" because they couldn't fit their own motors in it.

    True story.

Seems like things are pretty much the same the world over. I read this thread years ago and am entertained to see it resurrected.
I have taken my car down to the local monthly show twice, the American Car Club president comes to ask me to come down occasionally but in the past i have used Speedway and racing the night before as my excuse.
Last time i went some guy kept on at me to open the hood so he could gawk at tje motor, it looks ugly under there and will stay that way till it gets its BBB transplant. Anyway he was like a dog with a bone till i asked him how he'd feel if i asked him to lift his girlfriends skirt so i could have a gander. He didn't like that (she shot me the sweetest cheeky smile.
Back in January I was out of town racing (car written off Friday night qualifying + three broken ribs) and went into the town to find a pharmacy to get a script filled on Saturday and there was a show on down the main street with an awesome variety of cars. American, Australian, British and even a few European thrown in.
I spotted a 65 Skylark and the guy was there so i asked him real friendly like if it was a 300 small block or a nailhead.
His reply was "its a 310 nailhead " so i let that go, then the wife piped up "that's like yours isn't it?" which he jumped on straight away with "there is only six of these in the country and I know where they all are where are you from?" Gisborne she says to which he replied she must be mistaken, 10 seconds later she's showing him my farcebook page with pictures of my car. "Must be a fresh import" by this stage I'm dragging the missus away ( it came to NZ 2011 and I've had it about seven years now ) in need of a Bourbon and coke to wash down some pain killers.

With that said it's cool that people are prepared to show their cars, it may well inspire more people to keep the hobby alive.
Cargo shorts are comfortable and have plenty of pockets for the gubbins we carry around.
Lawn chairs provide a convenient seat wherever you decide to pull up a pew for little space in the trunk.
I may have more gray hair than not at almost 55 years old but still wear Led Zep and acca dacca etc. Tshirts and identify as a 25 year old but my body often argues the point with my brain.

Been hitting up some cruises lately.....uggg, every 283 street rod runs low 11’s, high 10’s....lol, another one I’ve never seen is valve cover spacers to make the engine look bigger and giant air cleaner I guess to look like a blow through supercharger, then a 2bbl underneath..

No update since the last. Its been little more than a shelf since I worked on it last. I've been out flat working on the Scout. It's finally at the body shop so I have a break in the action. Lots of small parts to clean/blast before final assembly though.
