When i purchased my car it had no radio or speaker I purchased a working original radio with the Buick Buttons and the correct front speaker and bracket Is there anyone or a place near Weymouth Mass i could get this installed I know its pretty simple its just out of my league for me to try and do If anyone is close by and could install this for me Id be happy to compensate for your time and effort or any advise where to go i currently have no insurance and i am not registered so i dont want to risk going to far Thanks in advance
Honestly, it couldn't get easier. It's hard to believe that this could be over your head. This is part of the wiring diagram from a 1972 Chassis manual, but 68 should be the same. Yellow is 12 volts with the ignition on. The radio is grounded to the chassis by the bracket mount. Green is positive for the front speaker, black is the speaker ground. The blue lead goes to the rear speaker, if so equipped. The rear speaker negative goes to ground.
LOL id say thats way over my head anyway the wires arent there my friend told me they used the yellow wire for the aftermarket guage thing thats mounted under the dash with water temp oil battery readout So i think it needs wires run to the fuse box Thanks for posting the photo and trying to help out but i cant do it
You'll need to hunt down a factory accessory harness for the radio & speaker....might already be there. Also find the "L" shaped bracket that acts as a lower support for the radio frame. This screws to the dash support, beside & under the radio,LH side, behind the bezel. Talk to whom ever you buy the parts from. Make sure you have a good radio bezel, threaded nuts for the radio control shafts, knobs etc.. Many cars parted here, someone will have these parts. Make sure your speaker is 10 ohms, it will be marked. Have someone copy & e-mail/fax you a diagram from a '69 Chassis Manual. Put everything in a box & talk to any local car audio shop. They can easily install or refer you to someone who can. Simple job, once you know how to do it. Once the car is there, have them check & ensure your after-market gauges are correctly fused. On the RH dial, tuning I think, pull the knob & bezel off. At the bottom you will see a couple tiny holes or possibly a jumper across the holes. Jumper is used for front speaker only, remove jumper for front & rear speaker. Don't turn the radio on without the jumper or a rear speaker in place. With a rear speaker a fader will be needed. The blue wire bottom RH of the radio is for the rear speaker.
Key is to get a picture & you can see all of the individual parts. Pretty sure the '69 Chassis Manual will have it.
Open the dash and see what you have for wiring running to the radio spot. You may find that most of the wiring is already there and tucked away.
Most the wires are there I know the antenia wire is And the light for the radio is and the yellow wire is but they stole it and used it for the aftermarket guage display batt oil water I am just not good at doing this sort of thing So was more looking for an audio shop that might do it for me Or anyone close by that could do it for me Id be happy to compensate them for time ect
It will help to know what you have and what you need. I think your car has AC, right? Take a few pics and post them or email them to me. Pics of the wiring, mounting areas for the radio and speaker if possible. Also the radio and parts that came with it. As everyone said, it's fairly straight forward re-installing the factory set up. But having everything ahead of time will save a lot of frustration for you and the helper.
You need to make sure you have the connector that plugs into the radio. Without that many audio shops will overcharge or turn you away. I've seen many shops take in a car without the connector and then convince the person that they need a new aftermarket stereo just so that they could use the connector that comes with the new stereo.
Ok Thanks hopefully i can get someone local to throw it in for me i Cant do the Best Buy thing im not reg / insured right now so i need it done here Thanks for the help and info
Anyone that works on there car could easily do this for you. All you need to do is run an extra wire off the fuse block, and wire the speakers.
Thats what i was hoping and thats what my neighbor said i just need someone to run a wire from the fuse box to the radio He said i have everything already there They had all the wires tied up except the yellow one they stole for the oil water temp guage
Print this diagram & review it. Relatively easy job. Take it with you to the shop if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. This is from the '71 Chassis Manual, '69 should be similar for the most part.
Just find a local shop that does stereo installs and you'll be fine. Check with the local Buick chapter or any other car clubs most times you can find a willing helper wanting to make a few bucks
