Anny one have good luck using Dynatech Split-Flow Race mufflers. I just ordered a pair (3-1/2" in/out 14"long x 7"wide x 4-1/2"high) Some of my nabors will hate them MOST will love them. AS far as ME maybe now I can hear what is going on with the car. Like a miss or some thing comming loose or any other sounds of some thing wrong. Not to metion the communaction factor with people around you when running. 2-1/8" primary with a 3-1/2 colecter/ tune pipe on a race moter can be loud. Input on who runs race mufflers/baffels, or who who has taken them off and why would make for good reading. Thanks ED Turman.
Well what ever you do, have a tune for with and without the mufflers. My buddy had a perfect nitrous tune with his mufflers on. Flowmaster 3 inch 2 chamber. He took the mufflers off and picked up 1/2 a second on the motor. 7.70 from an 8.20 We all told him he was going to munch a plug next time he put the juice to it. Well, next pass he put the spray on and sure enough, it backfired through the carb, blew of his rubber fuel line to the carb (which he was told to change many times), caught on fire, and had the biggest weenie roast in Wichita Raceway Park history. By the way, there was only some electrode on #1 and no electrode on #2.
GOOD POINT! Thats the kind of stuff I was looking for. Its those littel F-#$%@&* things that make for good experance. This Is my 3rd moter in a row that did not last. Will defently will have good record keeping on the tune ups on this moter. THANKS
I use a MAgnaflo mufflers with a 3.5 inch complete system and an X pipe. I love it when I blast down the track so quietly againts the rest of the open header guys,,..............mostly since Im faster than they are too ...
A 3.5" full system must look cool with the x pipe. To me the under body of a car hast to be as clean and fit as the outside body. I bet it sounds good with the big cube moter.
Funny you put it that way. Ironically, I was at the track last night and I was surrounded by open header cars. I went to start my car to back off the trailer and I couldn't even hear if it was running OK. Other times through the night I felt like yelling "Could you all be quiet so I can hear my car!" There are pros and cons. BTW, I run a 3" full-length system with an X and Spintech race mufflers. My last racecar was open header-ed and I kinda liked it better at the track. I wouldn't have with neighbors around, though. Have fun.
HAY JEFF is it just the feel of exaust that you like better or did you run quicker in the open header car. RACEBUICK- nice pic. I got a cross pipe on my 67, but if I replace it or build somthing new I am going to go to that x pipe set up. Thanks
Not really the "feel". I've been around racecars for a long time and I just like the sound of open headers. I put exhaust on this car to meet the GSM rules and to keep the neighbors happy. I did put 3 1/2" pipes and Flowmasters, no tailpipes, on my last car right before I sold it. It lost about 2 tenths (0.20) in the quarter. I played with jetting and that's the best I could do. That motor was only making around 500 HP. Bottom line, I can be happy either with or without mufflers. Have fun.
