    Hello all,

Do any of you racers out there insure your car and trailer. I've been looking into this lately because I've ordered an enclosed trailer. An enclosed trailer is a requirement to get this type of insurance. The quote I got was from Gulfway Insurers http://www.racensur.com/ , Mel Eaves runs this program, you may have heard of Mel through is Nitro Coupe racing. This is for full coverage of the race car, the trailer and it's contents. Coverage is suspended from the time you hit the burnout box until you turn off the track. The value for my junk was set at $32,000. The quote with a $2500 deductible is $582 a year. I basicly want protected from a total lose, such as fire or theft. So what do you guys think. Any comments or opinions are welcomed.

    thanks

I'm not insured, but I've always been curious/interested. If I lost it all, like Willie Wager did, I'd consider murder or suicide. If I were gonna go for the insurance, I'd be very particular about the details, for sure. As in...Show me exactly where it says exactly how much I'll get if my stuff burns to the ground or is stolen, and I mean EXACTLY!! Once I had the iron-clad guarantee in my hands and approved by my Uncle (the lawyer), I'd sign the policy.

I'm not insured either. On the otherhand, my insurance carrier for my business & personal vehicles said i could have comp. coverage for the race car, same stipulations as Shayne's policy, but i would need some kind of title. (which i don't have) Title was lost by the guy who originally built the car. I may have to look into this policy a little further. Randy

Thanks for the comments guys. It's Willie's deal that really got me looking in to this and the fact that the new trailer is on the way. You wouldn't believe the application just to get a quote. They want to know everything. Is the fence around your storage building electric? How tall is it? Does it have razor wire at the top? Are there armed gaurds? Have your gaurd dogs had training?

I think I'll do like Doug said and call back to get more details, before I send in a check.

    Shayne,
    Hope all is well.
I had my car/enclosed trailer insured, much easier sleeping at night. I was told by my tow vehicle insurer that if I was invloved in an accident (or if the trailer became disconnected) while towing, that any damage to other property caused by my trailer would be covered, but the trailer itself and its contents (the race car!) would not be covered. I found 3 different companies advertising in Joni's Race Shop section of the National Dragster at various times (never all three in the same issue). Gulfway was one, I ended up w/ Kincaid Insurance. One of the companies uses an old pic of "Big Bad Buick" doing a wheel stand. What are the odds? My premium was between $500 and $600 per year, can't remember the deductable. It covered the trailer, car, and tools/spares stored inside the trailer. I had to give them pics and details of the building I stored the trailer and car in. Seems like my total value was $35,000. The agent told me on the phone they had a minimum premium that was very close to mine, so you might want to raise your coverage a little and see if it effects your premium very much. You might be surprised what it would cost to duplicate a GS as nice as yours!

I own an Independant Insurance Agency and would make a couple of suggestions.

    1. The trailer could be insured on your personal auto policy by endorsement. This cost should be minimal compared to a specific policy you are looking at. Of course, no content related to the auto and it's parts parts would be covered under this avenue. Your tools, IF NOT USED FOR BUSINESS, would be covered under you Homeowners policy.

    2. Look into the company, where are they? What is there nearest claims service office? What is their BEST GUIDE RATING? No sense in buying something when you are going to have to pull teeth to get your claim paid.

I have had people buy policies from the trailer sales people and they couldn't find the company or a claims office.

    3. Ask the Agent to see a copy of the policy (before issuance) and read the EXCLUSIONS SECTION carefully. This is where you find out if you have coverage or not (the fine print).

    4. As stated, the policy is suspended if any racing is involved in a claim. Again, read the exclusions and remember that the claims people may interpret when coverage is suspended differently than you or the agent.

My agency has no facility for race cars specifically, but we do insured street vehicles that are classified as Pro street, modified and classic. Be careful. most of the carrier that cover race cars must be accessed through the internet and are hard to trace after the sale of the policy.

Remember, every company is different with regards to item 1, check with your agent. The trailer is not subject to limitations due to the cargo it hauls
(unless it contains ammonium fertilizer and kerosene parked in front of a federal building) so, if you have comprehensive and collision, racing exclusions do not apply unless it is hooked to the back of you R/C.

    Happy hunting! :blast:

    Thanks on the regal comments.

Question on your 11:20ET. What is the weight of your GS and do you ahve it on the bottle?

My Regal weighs in at hefty 3950 lb and has run 11:95 @114.25 frying the main bearings. I thinking 11:50's now that everything is running smooth, timewill tell opnce I can get to the track, 11:20s thats pretty goooood! :jd:

    Hey Weekender,

You've got about 100 lbs on me. I typically weight around 3850 lbs with me, depends on the the track. My car is currently under geared and the converter is on the tight side or I would most likely be in the high 10's. It leaves nice and soft the way it is now, and I truely believe that it's a better bracket car like this. I've worked really hard to narrow the difference in my 60' times from a great track and 60's from a bad track. That did mean giving up a little E.T. but it's pretty consistant.
