What's everybody's consensus about the right size of battery? I'm looking at a 720 CCA Optima Red Top for my 425. Is it too big, too small or what? Thanks.

I've allways gone by the "bigger is better" thinking. I would allways put in the biggest battery I can find that will fit.... Never have to worry about it not being enough.

Good thinking but, I'm trying to hide the bat in a specific place in the front. I might try to fit the 800CCA in there.

a 425 with stock compression should be fine with 750 or 800 cca... don't know about cold weather tho... its been sooo long since I've seen anything below 40....lol.

I have run a red top on several big blocks. They work fine. I have had a little trouble with them getting weak if not started in a while (months in my case). Very nice battery. Keep your eye on the little black vents on top of that battery too. Make sure there is no clear liquid oozing out of them! I had one do that in my GS 2 months back. Nasty stuff that ate my hands up!!! Sure it would do worse over time to sheet metal.

So pooods, what's the CCA's on that red top? I've only been able to find 720 or 800.

The red top is 800 CCA, and the biggest plus (IMHO) is that it will not rot your core support :)

Marco, Hopefully the battery will fit underneath the fender behind the front tire. BTW, this is a 425 powered 1951 Mercury.

They do list the dimentions on the website.

Make a 'mock' battery out of wood and test-fit it :TU:
