i finally got a 9 3/8 posi rear for my 1973 riviera. it came out of a very sorry 1973 riv. i felt so bad for that car...but it's parts are going to good use.

anyway.....are there parts to rebuild these units (the posi units that is)? i am looking for some idea on how to get these parts to rebuild the posi carrier and the rear end itself. i think that these 1973 riv rears came only with 2.93:1 gear ratios. that is fine with me. i love the highway gears in the riv.

    any help would be appreciated.

2.93 and 3.23 ratios in 73 for the Riv. I would ask Oph on the Board who is a rear end specialist and probably ship it to him. I would at least consult with him about buying parts.

When I talked to a guy about them he said they basically never go bad!! The only thing he talked about was maybe having to shim the clutch disks ,but other than that they dont wear out.... AS far as rebuilding them he said any 8.5 (corporate) style clutch packs will work....Not sure about bearings and such tho.... When I got mine it was in a 73 riv GS sitting in the junkyard for you knows how long took it home drained oil and put new oil in and new posi additive and have been dragging it ever since!!! thats atleast 70 passes already on it and at #4850 not one hint of trouble...

Ask opH. I asked this same question a couple of years ago and he answered with the part numbers for the clutch packs. That might have been one of the posts lost, though, from the last big crash.
