Okay, last set of pictures before I have to turn in for the night. The frame is worse than I thought, I don't think that it can be saved.

    Thanks everyone....

Mike, If you do happen to have anyfender tirm I would be more than happy to take it off your hands, if you would be willing to part with it.

I did manage to find a 69 Buick Special Deluxe (looks nearly exactly like a Skylark) at a salvage yard that looks like it still has a pretty solid frame on it. It is pitted in a few spots from sitting in a salvage yard for god knows how many years. I just don't know if everything will line up alright. That car actually has a pretty straight core support also. The owner of the yard said that he would give it up for $500. I just don't want to spend the money then find out that the frame doesn't fit.

When (not if) I get it finished I'm thinking about either keeping it original, or removing the vinyl top and getting it painted Charcoal Metallic. I haven't decided yet.

    Jasguer,
68 frames are slightly different then 69-72 frames. 69-72 frames use different clips to hold the brake and fuel lines and do not have the extra tongue(under the engine cradle) that the 68's have. Other then that they are the same. Any 68-72 2-door a-body coupe or convertible frame will fit under the car.
Sorry to hear about your accident, hope this info helps.

That poor poor car. I feel for it.

Do you still have the same girlfriend???
Not sure if I would anymore:laugh:

You would find me chasing her around the house like this:blast:

Well, actually I still have the girlfriend arround, she actually cried after the accident for about an hour, I personally just felt......welll.....kind of numb really, didn't know what to think. But the next day I was kind of pissed off at her. But I figured that her and I have been together for nearly three years without any major problems (other than this). And, it could have been worse, if she were in her car, a 1995 Neon, yeah my car would still be here but she probably wouldn't. The intersection where she had the accident is really bad thought, its a "T" and there are four lanes of crosstraffic that travels anywhere between 40 and 55mph, and the traffic density is just insane for that intersection not to have a light or a stop signs or anything. But, in all honesty i do feel like chasing her arround the house like this :blast: , I just have an amazing amount of self-control. :Dou:

Damn.....Now why didn't I think of that one!

She did say she was going to pay for all of the repairs though.

She probably was not used to manual drum brakes.
If the trans cross member is that far out of the frame, the frame is probably "wracked". I would check out the body to make sure it is OK before you take it off the frame. If it needs straightening they can pull on the old frame, can't hurt it any more.

I think this is where you weigh your sentimentalism towards your beloved Buick and the sentimentalism in your wallet. It could well cost you more to fix it right than to find another good survivor and invest yourself into it instead. And nothing is worse than unloading a bunch of dough only to find out it wasn't fixed right for some reason.

Remember, you can enjoy more than one car, but only one girl. Well, that's the way it's suppost to be at least.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do!

I'm surprised nobody asked this yet, but I know I'm curious, how did the GMC fair after the accident?

I'm not sure about the GMC but from what I remember, the windshield of the Envoy was shattered because the hood/cowl buckeled and smashed that. The front wheels were pushed back in the fenders, they had to flatbed it away. Basically the Envoy was about a foot or so shorter after their brief meeting.

Does anyone have any idea what the production numbers for 1968 were? I've looked everywhere and I can't find them.

Yeah that was one of my concerns, but I checked the floor and it didn't look buckeled. As it sits right now I think that the body is pretty straight.

Sorry if this is too obvious, but there is a 68 for sale on this board for $500 said to have a good frame. Presumably some other good parts you need. Even with shipping it's a good deal. He needs to get rid of it so you'll need to decide rather quickly.

Thanks for the help Mike. You know I didn't even think of looking here for a car for sale :Dou:. I guess that just proves probably the easiest sollution is the most overlooked.

My girlfriend said that she would give me $2000 Sept 1 and the rest later. I hope I don't burn thought that too quickly though, she's not going to be able to give me any more until January.

She sounds like a good girl, better keep her!

I never heard, who was at fault?

I also have been thru something similar a couple of times. The first time I bought another parts car and swapped over the necessary front end parts. The second time the frame was bent and I cut my losses, scrapped the junker and bought another car. That was a while ago and I still kinda regret that choice. I think now I would definetely try to find a replacement frame!

Good luck with your decision!:TU: :TU:

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

Hemmings every month has an add for rust-free south'n frames for $500 i think.......

I feel your pain.....but when you can buy
    [IMG]

"OK, 1968 Skylark, 350 4bbl, power windows, power bench sear, rear defogger, tilt wheel, A/C, power brakes(with aluminum front drums) power steering(quick ratio box) speed alert, clock hood tach, reel out underhood worklight , wire wheel covers, 1 1/4" front sway bar, 7/8' rear sway bar with boxed control arms. I've owned the car since 1994 and decided it's time to sell off stuff, offers will be accepeted on all vehicles (cars and bikes) except the 85 WH1, the 73 Triumph and the 74 Norton.
located in the Fayetteville NC area
    $4400, I can be reached at (910) 436-9495"

then you have to think hard as to how much all the parts will cost......the frame, core support, inner and outer fenders, bumper, grille, headlite buckets + bezels......the chrome trim....etc...etc...etc......:Dou:

.....plus all the time away from that nice girlfriend you have....while working on your Mistress

    Working on the Mistress

I just have a few questions, I'm pulling the interior out of my car right now and I was wondering how to remove the back of the rear bench seat. I just don't want to mess anything up because the back seat hasn't really been used in about 20 years (except for on Friday nights  ). Also, I know I probably won't find it buy where would the build sheet be on my car.

    Thanks
