    On the axel housing there are the three (3) letters followed by four (4) numbers.

    The numbers are 326 1; I know what the three letters mean, but I don't know what the numbers mean. Are they supposed to match the VIN?

    P.S. This car is very eclectic.

    What year and car did this rear come in?

    My car is a 1971; however, I changed the rear in 1982ish. I don't remember if I changed the entire housing or just the gears.

    Hey Len -

    Put (at least) your first name in your signature. We're pretty friendly 'round these parts :TU:

    Rears were not stamped with a VIN.

    PS - Do you know Lynn and Paul Gawel (Paul455 on this board)? They're also from Harrisburg PA and own a gorgeous gold concourse 1970 GS455 aqua mist convertible and a GN.

    Marco;

    I shall update my signature. I do not know anyone with a GS in Harrisburg. I would definately notice the GS Convertible. I will keep a look out for them.

    Do you know what those numbers represent?

    Sorry Len, I do not know what the numbers represent.

    Maybe they're a date code? :Do No:

    Len,

    On the axle tube..3 letters followed by numbers..

    the first two letters are the "axle ratio"
    the next letter is the "axle build source"
    the next 3 numbers are the "day of the build year"
    the next single number is the "shift"
    in your case 326th day of the year, built by the 1st shift.
    Hope this helps.......

    Dan;

    You say the housing is from a 1972; do you have the rear end codes for the 1972? I only have the 1971 book. Thanks.
