I recently installed one of Dave Ray's small body HEI distributors in my GSX. He told me that I should not use a ported vacuum source. He said that after I set the initial timing with the vacuum line off, I should reattach the line and then adjust the idle as the idle will go up after I attach the vacuum line. The vacuum source that I'm using has very little vacuum. As a result, the idle did not change after I hooked it back up.The source I had it hooked up to is on the front of the driver's side of the carb near the bottom of the body. However, there is another source on the carb which has significantly more vacuum. The other source is high on the passenger side on the front of the carb. Should I have it hooked up to that source? Is that a non-ported source? I'm not sure what a non- ported source is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Non ported is the top passenger side of the carb.

This is where you wantto hook the vac advance up to.:TU:

    Adam,

Thanks a lot. I'll give that a try.

Upper on passengers side is where mine is. Ported vacuum will have no vacuum at idle. Manifold vacuum is all the time. There are different opnions on this. For me manifold vacuum made my car run cooler at idle. Dave's distributor made my car run and sound better. You will be happy.
