I know it has to be simple, but haven't figured it out yet. I need to remove the push rod from under the dash that is hooked to the brake petal. I have the master cylinder off and the small push rod out of the booster, and the push rod unhooked from the brake petal. The booster is still bolted to the firewall. The push rod (under the dash) will turn around and around with ease, but will not come out. Is there a snap ring in the booster holding it, or something else I haven't seen? Any help will be appreciated. All the info. is listed below. Thanks.

    1978 Buick Park Avenue
403 CID engine w/4 barrel carb..
    4 wheel disk power brakes.

You'll need to pull the power booster from the firewall. The rod will come out with it. I'm not exactly sure how it is held into the booster, you may have to take the booster apart to remove the rod.

Thanks Brad. Thats what I was beginning to think too. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that, but I guess I will now. Thanks again.

Booster rod is mounted to a large metal disc which is mounted to the rubber diaphragm in the booster. If you booster is bad, just go to Autozone and get a rblt unit.

Yep, I think that is the answer. New unit. I was trying to save this one because the gentleman I got the car from 3 years ago took it to a mechanic shop and had new brakes all around. All 4 wheels, master cylinder and booster. That was less than 1000 miles ago. The brake pedal goes too close to the floor, but stops good. The mechanic's explanation was that the booster is from a different manufacturer and requires a longer push rod but he didn't have one and couldn't get one right away so he used the original short one. I can't talk to the mechanic. Hes somewhere else now. Its been sitting in my garage all this time taken out just once in a while to limber it up. So I decided to give it a try to see if his explanation was right, or if it may be something else. (I suspect something else, but don't know what yet) Any ideas?

Any chance that its a copper metallic car? I would really like to find the one my dad used to drive. It was loaded.

No, its not Copper Matallic, its 3078 Pastel Blue. It could sure use a paint job though. But the interior wouldn't match. Its blue also. Its also a 4 door, loaded, and can be driven anywhere in the world.

The moonroof on that car was huge, like all older cars.
