I have a '67 wildcat (2dr 430bb). My understanding is that the "starwars" air cleaner came on some of these cars. I'm sure mine did not (my family is the original owner). My question is, was this an option? What is the purpose of it? I'm tempted to buy one off e-bay, becuase I really like the way it looks... any info would be appreciated.
Star wars air cleaner was only found on 67 GS400 and the 67 Riv GS. It was not an option on anything else....which is why it's worth $$$ when in good condition.
DOes it do anything for performance, or is it strictly a cosmetic addition? Also, why have I seen it so many times as a "wildcat" starwars aircleaner?
It doesn't add any performance....nothing noticeable anyway. Buick engines are many times referred to as "Wildcat" engines.
You're not being cheesy at all, just making your car look the way you want. Those air cleaners are a one year only item, and the best looking ones I've ever seen. Buick must have wanted to really let people know that there was a new big block under the hood by showing off.
They were on the 67 GS 400s. Buy it, it will look chezzy and then sell it to me cheap, I have a 67 GS 400 without one.
Buy it, put it on and enjoy it. If I had one I would put it on my '70 Riviera. Even though it would not be correct, only those who know something about Buicks would know any different. :Brow: Not sure though about how well they breathed. They look kind of restricted.
I think the star war's twin intakes would flow about the same as the standard air cleaner's single intake. They are a nice looking piece-I got one last year in the trunk of a Special that had 'GS' emblems-looked like someone had just started a clone project. The prices on these are going from high to very high-especially ebay-good luck.
Dale-Not this time. I was responding to an ad on some stuff. A ford type guy east of Brainerd that also had some GM that he wasn't interested in-he was like a local private boneyard that folks could get rid of a car at. The trunk was full of the GS stuff. I'd like to hear the story of who designed/made these-
