I posted this in the wet behind the ears forum but didn't really get a response. I was told that I should post it in this forum so I did. Here is my questions...

I've got a 1972 Buick Skylark and I was trying to accomplish a few things with it. I figured this seemed like a good place to turn with these questions.

I was interested in putting door poppers and a shaved handle kit on it but I didn't really know about how to go about it. Any suggestions about the power of the door poppers and where I could get some along with the shaved handle kit.

Also if anyone was located in Portland Oregon, or knew about any good shops where I can get some work done on it. Could they let me know? Thanks in advance

Try changing your subject line with a better description. Sorry I cannot help.

I have done this several times on cars. There are 2 things on a custom car that catch my eye and I hate the look of. Handles and gutters. Gutters are a pain to remove but handles are easy.
Check any of the street rod mags for suppliers. I have used GEM, Yogis and R&B. All have competitive prices and sell good products. A couple of tips

    1. Buy a good set. Dont scrimp here. I use 50lb pull solenoids. Lighter solenoids can fail and leave you stuck outside of your car on a rainy day. Then your way in is a rock through the window

    2. Weld the holes in the doors. Some use glass and bondo, but it will crack and you will be disapointed

    3. I always re-work the latches for smooth operation

    4. Route the pull cable in the straightest route to the latch. If you have to make a turn use a small pulley wheel.

    5. Finally. Run a backup manual cable in case of power failure. See #1

    Good luck.

I saw them do this on Trucks! or some other show. It was a pretty nice deal. They used a piece of metal and formed it to match the body's curve at the door handle, since it wasn't a straight panel. It was like a little metal cover plate and they welded it in place. I could imagine that bondo would crack since it would have to be pretty thick for some holes.
