I'm mocking up my Q-Jet set up for the 65, and I'm having an issue getting the dashpot to line up with the throttle linkage on the carb. The stem of the dashpot seems to be positioned about a 1/4 inch too low. I'm using a bracket off a 66 4GC car...

Can anyone tell me whether there are different part numbers for Q-Jet, Carter and 4GC brackets ?

If so - does anyone have a Q-Jet Bracket they'd like to sell?

    Thanks,

I called Russ in California, he told me there is a different, Q-Jet specific bracket -
    P/N 1375344

    Anybody have one?

    Thanks,

There were no Q-jets in 65, they were never used they were not made yet! A Q-jet bracket may work but it's doubtful, because the manifolds were differnt for the Q-jets. You may have to cut, bend, and weld that bracket to make it work..........

Sorry for the confusion - the intake and carb are off a '66

And it's a 49 state intake - apparently the dash pot wasnt used on a CA emmisions car.....

I'm showing 1375370 for the dashpot bracket. All 66-67 V8, except 446 (GS) cars.
No other listing but I have a relatively newer parts book published in '81.

Hmmm. If they're the same from Nailhead to BBB, thats an interesting idea. My buddy has a 430 riv - I'll have to take a peek.

This is a picture of what I think is the correct bracket from a 2004 thread - the dashpot mount threaded hole is lower and more toward the front of the car than the Carter or 4GC bracket

Here's an old pic of the original setup on my L76 car. When I get out in the shop again, I can get a better pic.

BTW, while the 1967 carbs had nearly identical throttle linkage on the carb, the pn for the dashpot is different. Russ gave you the correct pn.... it's '66 Qjet only

Thanks to both of you -

Walt - that looks alot like the one in the '04 post from WildBill, and it's definately a different "needle in a haystack" part number from the 4GC and AFB bracket.

Both Jim and Russ were pretty sure I'd be OK without one at all, and my 72 Pontiac doesnt have one...but I think they have an internal dashpot assm. Does the 66 carb have one?

    Thanks again..

66 Q-jet has internal dashpot for secondarys air flaps only.I run my Riv w/o dashpot but when you set idle to specs it will eventualy die after burnout or when you let off go pedal after hard takeoff.

    Peace Kacper.

I thought that might be the case..thanks for the information.

Do you keep your idle higher than spec to prevent the stalling? What RPM?

My OE '66 Q-jet and intake have an external dash pot on them. Everything lines up perfectly. ??????? If there wasn't an external dash pot, why did Buick cast the intake for one?

Yeah, there was an external dash pot from the factory on all but the CA emmisions cars. I was confused about the internal, 66 only dash pot that controls the secondaries (closure rate?)

And it does have a different Q-Jet only bracket that lines everything up correctly. Carmen thinks he found one, he's sending it.

I'l let you know how it works, and take good pictures comparing the two..

My idle is set to 550 in gear but i can handle lack of dashpot.I dont even have any provisions for it on my intake anymore,I also don't use choke and don't have any provisions for it on Q-jet aswell....

Very cool! - I see you opened up the intake, ala "Doc Mod"...Looks like a good clean job of it! I havent done mine yet, I'm setting up to measure before and after ET's (I cant rely on the G-Tech meter anymore).

How did it work out for you? Did you do it alone, or in conjunction with a bunch of other changes? Any before/after numbers (dyno, ET's, etc...)?

    Thanks,

Rhett, pard,,,,:Smarty: the quick fix for you is to fab a little ''tab'' and tig weld it to the lower part of the carb arm.... but,,,, I might have one of those odd brackets laying around,,, I sold 3 of those qjet manifolds and I most likely took the bracket off before I sold them....just aint got a clue where it would be .....

    Hey Doc!

That was my plan B - you havent seen my welding! I figured if I could come up with an un-altered piece that would be the better solution, rather than have my carb arm look like someone sneezed metal on it.

Either way, the whole conversion is giving me something to look forward to in the spring. I'll be running 12's, getting 30 mpg and women will swoon!
