I have a 69 Skylark with a 350 that the previous owner installed a TA Stage One 4 barrel intake along with a Holley 4175 carb equipped with an electric choke. The car originally had the two barrel intake and carb.

Question is I'm looking to install a quadrajet P/N 7040244 from a 70 350 engine with primary and secondary vacuum pull-offs. Is there any problems with this install?? Will this be a bolt on and run installation? My primary concern is with the choke setup from what I have now to what the 70 carb has.

Basically wanting to install the q-jet for a more stock appearance, and per you guys here the q-jet is the better set up for street driven cars. I'm planning on going through the carb and jetting it per the posts on jetting the q-jet before installation.

Thanks in advance for the info, this site has helped tremendously with my project. :TU: :beers2:

Not sure if that intake has provisions for Q-jet . I think it is set up for square bore only . Hopefully some one else that knows for sure will come in and say for sure .

Don't quote me, but I think that q-jet needs the intake manifold with the thermostatic coil in it for the choke assembly. If not, the choke will not operate as it does not have anything to tell it to move. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure the intake is spreadbore, but I haven't had the Holley carb off to look. All of the catalogs I see the TA intake in show it as a spreadbore, and a friend of mine has one for sale here:

Like in my earlier posting my main concern is the choke set up. I'm not sure what I need for this intake or how it mates to the intake. Does the heat riser port need to be machined for quadrajet use, or does the thermostat and cover bolt on externally on top of the heat riser?

    Per the TA website:

We recommend our PCV Grommet (TA 1240), our manifold bolt kit to prevent bolt hole damage (TA 1111-350), our 2 Piece Composite Gaskets (TA 1710) and GM #3989058/14006795 Choke Thermostat and cover.

    Thanks guys. :beers2:

Sorry about the misinformation on the manifold fitting a Q-jet . But as for as the choke you can convert to electric choke . I have done several .

Pretty much a bolt on and go deal. Buy the GM choke coil TA recommends. I think you have to fab your own rod from the coil to the carb. You will probably have to make some fuel line mods, or maybe a new reproduction steel pump to carb line is available. (I know they are for big blocks, but don't know about availability for 350s.)

The rod is attached to the coil, no worries there. You'll need a c clip or similar to attach the rod to the carb, no big deal. Maybe a new base gasket. The coil should mount externally over the port with two or three small bolts depending on design. There was also what some people call a "bath tub" that sits in the port under the coil to shield it. That might be the second part # TA is referencing.

Get what TA recommends and it's simple.:TU:

TA Sells an external non-power choke for the Q-jet. It fits on the flat tab on pass side on intake. It is held down with one screw. It will take some tweaking on the rod to get it to fit just right. I think I ended up bending my own rod out of a cut up metal hanger. Also be careful because the hole in the intake for the choke mounting screw is VERY small and strips out waaay too easy.
