    I'm going with QA1 coil over, they have 2 weight rating, one for small block and one for big block.
    I have fiberglass hood and bumper, aluminium bracket, tubular A arm, manual steering and brakes.
    Motor will be big block Buick or Cadillac!

    So weight reduction is important.
    Do I need to go with the small block one?

    Thanks

    David

    Good question. I just did the same thing to my Regal and was thinking/wondering the exact same thing as I think the spring ratings are about 100 lbs. different. And that's about what has been taken off of the front end. I also am trying to get an aluminum core support to complete the front end ligthening job.

    I am hoping to buy the same thing for a '72, but since it has a big block with aluminum heads, intake, & radiator, along with no PS, no PB, I wasn't sure which springs it would need. So before I spend the money I'm going to play it safe and go weigh my car at a local place that has a scale that weighs the front and rear with dual scales (intended to weigh the front and rear of class 8 trucks). Better safe than sorry?

    I had the small block springs on the front of the blue car for about two weeks the were to light for the car it had been lightened up as much as I could to run GSE. The springs were totally coil bound they needed the big block springs for sure. I plan on going back to them this year but I am going to weigh the front of the car before I install them and if I'm close to the max on the SB springs I will buy the big block ones. After talking to Ttom Rix this past summer he really likes the double adjustable set up using them. Thats what has me trying them again

    Thanks for the information, so it sounds like David and I both need to weigh our cars to be sure before we make a purchase.

    Hi Guys,

    Bobb....I know this thread is a few months old but I'm just now reading it. So to clarify the above sentence..."Tom Rix really likes the double adjustable set up using them". Which one exactly is "them", SB or BB?:Do No:

    Thanks!:TU:

    Just an update/FYI...

    I did purchase the QA1 coil overs for the front of my '72 Skylark sedan last summer. I never found an easy way to weigh the front of my car so I just bought the "big block" versions. I was very pleased with them. They were simple to install and I was able to adjust the height of my front end to get my car to sit like I wanted.

    My e.t droped too :) . Running 28 x 11.5 MT ET Streets (bias ply, not radials) my 60' times were generally in the low 1.70s-1.80 before the swap. With the new front springs and shocks the 60' dropped the high 1.50s. Not only is the car quicker, it is now more consistant. On the street the car still drives great. Money well spent in my opinion...

    I've installed these on two 454SS trucks (one mine), and I love the setup. I would highly recommend it. Glad to see you feel the same.

    I just bought the BB set for my 72 Skylark. Easy to install, but I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions on where to start with settings?
    I was also in the mid 1.7s for 60 foot, and am looking forward to getting it back out and playing.
    Thanks.

    RCGMP16 = Big Block

    RCGMP12 = Small Block

    Pretty good description here if the QA1 site is giving you problems:

    Best price I can find is these guys: http://www.racingjunk.com/post/781555/QA1-GMP-Pro-Coil-Over-Conversion-.html

    Still not sure regarding the big block vs. small block springs. I run a Moroso drag spring (small block) and still have to cut a quarter coil off for a decent stance. That's with a steel hood and bumpers...

    This year I will have fiberglass hood, bumpers and aluminum bumper brackets. We'll see what happens I guess.

    I think you have the part #s reversed. RCGMP16 are the "small block 1700-1950 lbs front end weight". RCGMP12 are listed as 1951-2200 front end weight.

    The "R" Series Pro Coil System are actually the items I installed in my car, part # RCGMP12 ("big block"). My car does have steel hood but should be pretty light in the front as mentioned in an earlier post due to aluminum heads, intake, & radiator, plus no PS, PB, or heater/AC. See the attached pictures...It certainly does not sit high in the front and if needed I could still lower the spring another 1.5" on the shock body.

    I bought my QA1 components from ebay. Company name was AutoFab Race Cars. At the time I could not find ANYONE cheaper for the part number I needed, $414 to my door for RCGMP12.
