Hello-I've been wondering if a Demon Carb or even a Holley might not be better than a Q-Jet.What are the pro's & cons between them all?The Q-Jet i speak of is the original one on my 72 Stage1.I'm not concerned with originality much at all.I'm going to do this car as i want.Clone it into that Stratomist Blue GSX i always wanted-The original block, heads, tranny are long gone anyway. Also what is a 1972 Stage1 Carb worth on the open market? I appreciate any comment, opinions & advice. Thanx Jeff
Well, this topic ought to bring out lots of opinions! I won't try to convince you that the Q-Jet is better (although it is :TU: ); but as far as value, one genuine (not a restamp) used Stage 1 Q-Jet ought to get you at least a couple of chicken boxes (or more) of used Demons and Holleys. Alternate idea, why not set the Stage 1 on the shelf, and modify a 1975~1978 Q-Jet to use; they are good for about 550 HP. How wild will your engine be? Jon.
Jon-My engine won't be that wild-I'm wanting it to be very pump gas friendly & accessory friendly, something i put gas in & go,but still with plenty of punch. Not a bracket car engine-LOL. I'm just now getting motivated again to get going on this car.Had a series of personal problems that have set me back.Things are looking up now,so i'm getting the urge to get back into finishing this car up. I may well be putting my Stage1 carb up for grabs for someone who wants to do a concours car-Councours is the least of my concerns. Jeff
Jeff - there is another thread in this section where I posted concerning a new book on how to modify Q-Jets. You might give it some consideration. Jon.
