Yep, those are tough, nothing but a "beak" on the top side, and not even anyplace to hook a return spring up below center. Just about any early Chevy carburetor will usually work, auto trans is best, as most of them have a provision for the kick down cable (TH350), which will also work as a TV cable hook up point for the 200-4R. The later carburetors have longer shafts, and will not directly replace the shaft on the 7042244. The ends can be removed, by grinding off the staked area, then swapped out and MIG welded in place. So it is possible to take the end from a later 80's carb that my have had a 200-4R or 700-4R trans behind it, and put that part on the early shaft. I've done a few here, as retrofitting those transmissions into early vehicles is quite popular.......Cliff

I agree, find a Q jet carb from a car/truck with a 700R4 or 2004R trans and weld the end onto your throttle shaft. Look for the 80s cars powered by a olds 307 or a 80s chevy astro van with a 4.3 carb as they are common and easy to find at the wreckers.

    Cliff, Sean
Thank you both for your answers, from your information it seems like I need to get creative with a welder and protractor. Looks like I am making my own [IMG]

hey i caught this thread a bit late but look in that OD swap thread towards the end...there were some Buick cores from the late 70s Lesabres etc that had a early 70s looking BUICK throttle arm but it had the lower arm off it usable for detent / TV.
