    Hi Guys,

I'm rebuilding a Q-Jet, and I'm getting kind of frustrated at the moment. Is there a trick to keep the primary metering rods in place while trying to put the top of the carb back on? The spring for the piston that holds the rods keeps popping the rods out of the jets while I try and reassemble the carb.

Am I going about this bass-ackwards? Any insight would be a great help!

    Thanks!

Some of those had a small Jesus clip that held them down for you. Perhaps you could try getting a helper to hold them down with a long wooden stick about 1'8" diameter through the vent tube while you line it up? Or have him hold it down from the edge with a thin peice of metal, like a 6" scale and pull it out after the top is in place. Just a thought.

BTW, they are called Jesus clips 'cuz that's what you say when they slip and go flying across the room!:Brow:

Those should be held in place by that plastic collar at the top of the piston.
That collar presses into the body of the carb.
I usually lightly stake it in place with a center punch.

    Joe,

If you're talking about the little spring that holds the rods to the piston "wings," yeah, I lost that once already, and it took me some time to find it.

    Dale,

I was wondering if that little plastic collar was supposed to stay in the body. I'll try and stake it in place so it doesn't pop out.

    Thanks guys!
