Q-jet on a F**d 460?

Would a 800 cfm Q-jet work on a 87 F**d 460? I got almost 16mpg on my racecar with it, and would like to improve the mileage on this next trip across the US.

There is a Holley Avenger on it right now with a Edelbrock performer intake manifold.

Any Ideas? Would a carb spacer help too?

    Thanks

    yes and yes

the years now escape me, but some ford cobrajets actually came with a q jet as well as a couple of lincoln models in the late 60s early 70s :Brow:

    Rick,

Replace it with a 6.9 diesel  . That will cure the problem, it worked for me. What is your rear-end ratio? I assume it's a 3.55.

I am not sure what the rear end is, but it is a Heavy Duty 3/4 ton F-250 pickup. No time for the diesel swap, but that sounds like a good idea.

Had a 1971 429CJ Mustang. Came with a Q-jet and ran real strong. Decent mileage if I remember right. But who cared then.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

70-71 429CJ's came with a Quadrajet, the SCJ's had square bore Holleys. A 429CJ manifold should bolt on to your 460, but you would lose your EGR valve and some vacuum holes as well. The ports are bigger on the CJ.
