I have a Q-jet that was pulled off a 67 Gs 400 auto but the numbers dont match. The number on the carb is 7027244.
Also what does external idle vent do? Its the thing hooked to the pump lever?
    Thanks for the help!

The numbers look correct...67 model with auto trans. I don't have a specific model car it went on though.

My old Hollanders interchange shows Buick Special '67 8-400 (GS400) auto trans w/o A.I.R.
note: A.I.R. refers to air induction reactor (air pump) not air cond.

An A.I.R. carb would have the prefix of 703xxxx

    Special 400-8

Adam, The numbers in my Chassis manual show the numbers as follows:
    7027148 400 man.
    7027146 400 auto
    7027149 400 man A.I.R
    7027147 400 auto A.I.R
    7027240 430 auto
    7027241 430 auto A.I.R
and thats is all. Nothing for a 7027244? John I am glad your book shows that because that was what I was told it came off of.

The other odd thing is the 67 carbs I thought should have the number on a round metal tag and not stamped in the body like this one. Maybe this was a late 67 carb.

What cfm would this carb be?

To answer the question regarding the vent, it is intended to stabilize the idle when the engine is a little warmer than normal. Typically, when the engine exceeds 200 deg, such as when the A/C is on in high ambient temps, the vent will allow vapor to escape, allowing the fuel to stabilize. It should be open above about 200 deg. Ray
