Q-jet Carb question

    Can I remove this thingy?

    I'm going to swap out my Edelbrock 750 carb for this Quadrajet. I believe from the part number on it, it's from a 1980 Pontiac with an auto trany. I'm putting it on a '68 Buick 350-2 with a Poston spread bore intake.

    Also, do I need a gasket between the carb and intake?

    Mark, the part you have indicated is a vacuum pull off and should be availalbe at and larger part stores or check with "the carb doctor" at classiccarb@aol.com Hope this helps, AL.

    But do I need it? It has the choke pull off in the front of the carb. The other q-jet I have doesn't have the vacuum pul off. It's a 73 olds q-jet.

    I got this engine in my 85 Regal.

    Quadrajets use 2 vacuum pull offs. The one dampens the opening of the secondaries and pulls the high idle down and the other one pulls the the choke to a spot to limit the air intake on cold start up. AL

    Okay, so which vacuum line goes to it then? I have a manifold vacuum line that has a T connector and one of those ports is capped off. Is that what I use?

    And the other question I had, do I need a gasket with this carb?

    Mark,
    If you want the choke to work right, you need to use both pull offs. The front one opens the choke after the motor starts, and also dampens the secondary air-valves. The rear pull off has a delayed action, and opens the choke valve a little more. Both pull-offs require full manifold vacuum. Doesn't really matter where it comes from, as long as it is full manifold vacuum, use the tee if you want. And yes, you better use a gasket with the carb, otherwise you'll have the mother of all vacuum leaks:laugh:

    Thanks. The other Q-Jet carb I have is cleaner and moves more freely. It's from a 73 Olds. Here's a picture of the choke area but I swapped an electric choke on it. I only see one vacuum pull-off on the front of it. There are no other vacuum pull-offs.
