Im upgrading to a 455 from my 350 on my 1970 skylark custom. i want to convert from my column shifter to a floor shifter. ive decided to go with a turbo 400 tranny from the turbo 350 that i have now (please feel free to comment on this as well). The shifter i picked out is the hurst indi-matic. from here i have no idea where to go. how do i line up to cut the hole in the floor? has anyone ever used the indimatic, and is it good? halp would be a lifesaver.:Do No:

My car was originally a GS350/350 turbo with the factory floor shift. When I went to the 455/400 turbo, I had to buy the t400 cable bracket (easily obtained), to use my factory shifter. It mounts on the tranny pan bolts. I don't know about the indy-matic, but usually you can pretty much mount the aftermarket shifters wherever it feels right for you.The cable length should be adjustable. You should not need a very big hole at all since the cable should be the only thing going thru the floor. I also doubt you will need any different type of brackets because they are usually universal. Not much help but some ideas! Brian

thanks. ....so...if i understand correctly...the only thing that will actually go through the floor is the cable?

IIRC, most aftermarket shifters have you use an 1 1/2" hole saw, to use their supplied shifter cable grommet.
