I think I can leave in: starter and solenoid and disconnect wiring after engine is out a few feet Am I leaving out anything important? Thanks, Frank :TU: :beer Update: well it's out, and it's a big one! Cigars all around. Now the real work srarts.... Frank
I don't think you'll be able to pull the motor out very far with the starter wiring still connected. I would recommend removing the wiring related to the starter before you pull the engine out. There are wires in the main harness that are routed from the firewall, over the passenger side valve cover, then down over the front of the block, then to the starter. I don't believe there is very much slack to spare here. By the way you're describing this, I take it you plan to pull the engine and transmission as one piece, correct? I'm not sure if there is enough room in the engine bay to pull the engine and trans as one unit. If the donor car is just getting scrapped afterwards, just cut out the offending portion of the core support. If you want to salvage the core support, you may have to remove it. I've pulled motors with and without the transmission attached. I very much prefer to pull the engine and transmission separately, especially on a larger car where there is lots of room to work, and removing the bellhousing bolts is easy. Good luck!
I pulled an engine trans combo in an 80 camaro and it worked easily this way. I jack up the car a little so the tailpiece on the trans can drop and the whole unit kinda curls out .:bglasses: I have plenty of room, I think. I'll report tomorrow, I hope! You're right about the starter wiring now that you mention it. I'll disconnect it! Frank
