As most of you already know, the Bullitt Mustang is going to be up for auction in Kissimmee, Florida @ the big Mecum Auction there. Much speculation has been thrown around about the cars value, but I haven't seen anything "official" as far as estimates go.

We are very fortunate to have the Prototype alive and well thanks to its long time owner and caretaker. Thanks Brad! Personally, I can't think of a musclecar outside of these two vehicles, that would be more valuable than these two cars.

Which one would be worth more crossing the block?

Does someone have a write in candidate?

With the massive cult following behind Bullitt and it's fame it would probably outbid the GSX handily. High profile movie cars always make a killing. That said, if I were in the position to buy such a car, I would have not even consider the Bullitt car and if the GSX was available it would be in my garage.

There is a pretty long list of muscle cars that have sold for 3 plus million so there could be a lot of competition for that lofty spot

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

There is no contest. The Bullitt mustang was way more noteworthy and huge made a impact on sales and young men that became die hard Mustang owners later in life. The GSX prototype most people in the car world don't even know about it. I still drive up to car shows with Buicks and people look at it and go nice GTO or 442 ect ect. You never hear that when a Mustang pulls up. The impact of the film is hard to express and so many wanted to be cool like Steve McQueen. That all said I love the GSX prototype but I cant believe it would even get remotely close to the value of the Bullitt mustang. Look at the first 70 Stage1 prototype its last time up for auction it only brought 75k as best I recall. Value on some cars is very tricky and its also not worth talking about I don't think Brad would ever sell the GSX prototype.

Well, like a lot of folks on here, I sincerely hope Brad doesn't mind conversation around his car. I don't "know something" about any future sale regarding the X. Disclosure aside, Brad's interior is absolutely beautiful in design and execution. Custom right? But like all the design elements of his car, unique and tasteful. Absolutely one of a kind. The best of the best at the pinnacle of Americana Automobilia.

On the other hand the Mustang is not only a run of the mill one of blah blah, it's in relatively poor condition. And, if the condition is poor, you're looking at restoration at some point just to get the wife to ride in it. Restoration will, to some degree, hurt originality. Catch 22. Heck, the steering wheel was stolen while it was stored in a barn in my area of Kentucky. What's a Buffalo nickel worth when the Buffalo is worn off?

I get the love of Bullitt completely. We all worship the 1968 chase and the ten minutes to climax. I was all about the hype when it came out of hiding, just like I remember the where and when I saw the movie for the first time.

However, the 2020 buyer of the Mustang will be a nerd compared to the ultra cool wheel man McQueen. Who wants to be that guy? It's a little like buying and running around in Ali's old boxing trunks and they ain't been washed.

The high bidder will probably be a museum or someone who thinks its worth more and puts it into flip mode. Can you imagine if this car gets bounced around auction after auction for the next five years like so many we've seen? It's possible.

Let's just hope it doesn't leave the country.

Which one would I rather have? I think that's obvious. It'd be the X, no contest.

Which one will stir up more broad attention? The Bullitt car. There are more Mustangs out there then every Buick model combined and then some I'd bet. And now you're talking about one of the most famous cars in cinema history of any model, let alone a model with broad appeal.

Which one would bring more money at auction? It only takes 2 guys being interested with big wallets to determine that.

The truth is: Steve McQueen anything and you’re talking big, big dollars.

Example: 1970 911 S he drove during the opening of the movie Le Mans... 1.3+ Million at RM Auctions back in Monterey in 2011.

Unfortunately this won’t be much of a contest.

You've got a Buick icon versus a cultural icon in the Bullitt. If they both went to auction, I'd bet the difference would be a multiplier of 10-20x. Not taking anything away from Brad's car at all, but it isn't even in the same universe as far as public perceived value. Hell, the two very first Firebirds ever made can't even break 250k for the pair.

Doesn't matter, there's still only one original car and everyone on the planet knows what it looks like.

Like most have said, (Even the most Buick faithful), we all know that the REAL Bullitt car would take the sale. I Can't even think of any Buick GS, much less GSX that would even begin to touch on the fame of the Bullitt Mustang. Heck, Ford even uses the 'hype' of 'Bullitt'; can't say I blame them...

I'd take the Buick over a "Falcon in a Party Frock" (as someone described the first Mustangs) in a heartbeat. BUT, that's me. As others have commented the Bullit Mustang is so well known. My heart is with the Buick, my head says Mustang.

Looks like Dana Mecum isn't the only deal maker. I'm feeling generous today and only going to take a 8 percent buyers premium.

That is EXACTLY why the Bullitt is worth more -- tons of copies because tons of people would sell their firstborn to get the real thing.

Kinda like the batmobile -- tons of cheap copies, but the original went for big big bucks.

GSX prototype? Other than us buick guys, its pretty much "dude, no one cares."

Update: I might make a GSX Prototype tribute car with Whitney1211 -- sweet russian girl who says she is "into really guys on working at old cars." It'd be a nice project to break the ice.

ok, agreed, but its just not "iconic", which is what draws the real heavy hitters.

i was kinda regerring to the average man on the street muscle car guy -- They've heard of the Batmobile, the Bullitt car, the Bandit trans-am, but not the GSX prototype Hell, maybe not even the GSX.

And I imagine the prices are kinda gonna run along those lines too.
