Thanks guys.I had 15psi at idle before I removed the engine without the b.plate and I'm used to sbc's,you know how that goes :spank: .Andy,I got that part here at home,PM me with your time table as to when you need it.
I opened both oil filters that I've used on this engine so far.The first one had evidence of copper throuhgout the inside creases of the filtering media.I looked at it with a loupe and tried a magnet on them and they're are not magnetic, there was enough to decorate the tree's angel if I wanted to ou: .I'm going back in there to find out what's going on,I figured a spun bearing or my thrust bearing surface wiped out.The second filter had evidence of the same but not as much.I'm amazed at the AC Delco filtering efficiency,I didn't notice any of that debris when I drained the oil the first time even though I looked for it then.I know that I've sounded too worrysome about the issue, this is my first Buick build but not my first engine, something is going on in there.I'm not bummed about it,I'm going to keep at it until it's right.Had I windowed the block I would be crying on my beer right now, I like my beer cold ,not diluted :beer .I'll update with my findings.
I'm amazed that anything went wrong with the attention to detail I've seen. I'm very interested to see what happened.
Sean,I'm back to 12 hrs,7days work schedule, prob. until the end of the year.I'll start on the engine next week if I'm not beat up ou: .
Update on an old thread.I'm convinced that the lobe wiping incident caused the bearing failure.I have bought all parts for replacing and getting the engine back together but haven't taken it to the shop for propper cleaning and inspection.I have been working on a manifold so I let the engine sit for the time being.Since I'm looking at some changes around here soon(job related),I purchased a running sbb 350-2 and TH-350 from a '72 Skylark that ran and shifted fine.I'm going to try some ported heads(bought from a member here) and a mild cam(260 Comps that came with a lot of parts a while back) on the short block with my original timing cover and a Poston manifold that I'm hoping to get here soon(from another member).I may not have the car running this year but I'm hoping that by next Fall the '79 is doing the rounds.I'll keep this thread updated as it goes.HF.
FYI - watch that fuel pump. I had fuel wash my bearings from a bad diaphram. I lost oil pressure in relation to the washing of the bearings.
Ditto on the fuel in the oil. Earlier in the spring i started up my 350 had normal oil pressure in the beginning, then once it warmed up a little it was getting alot lower. I'm wondering if when that happened it might have contributed to my problem now. I'll find out in the spring. Jeramie
