Project Car Wanted

Discussion in 'Wet behind the ears??' started by seventyonelark, Feb 26, 2004.

  1. Hey everyone.. Im new to this web site. I am looking for a skylark from the years '68 to 72'. Preferably in the surrounding states of Indiana. Because I reside in Indianapolis, and shipping cars seems to be pretty expensive. My price range is topped out at 2,000 dollars. I know its not much, but im on a budget. thanks:confused:

I'm just getting ready to post my 69's for sale if i can figure out how. I'm new to this site also & not very computer savy. I'm in N.E. Ohio.

  3. im not quite sure how to post cars for sale either.. But If you could e-mail be back with details about your car and maybe even a few pictures...I would really like that. Because a 69 skylark is my favorite...I like the curve down the side...but any ways...please write back with details...

Check out the 71 Skylark in my sig.
I know I'm over your budget if you bought the whole car, but we can also work a way to get it under $2K by removing certain parts if you want more of a project.
Otherwise, I'd sell it right now for $3,200 complete - delivered to your door from Ohio. I'll drive it there for you this weekend. The extra $100 is to cover my gas both ways.
If you have any interest, let me know.....soon. :Brow:

You can click on the links in my signature (especially the last one that says Or it's getting parted and off to Buick heaven) to see what I'm talking about to decrease the value.

For example... if you're going to put a 455 in it, you won't need the 350 engine. I could remove it and lower the price of the car.
But then I couldn't deliver it to you. I don't have a trailer.

Sorry, I can't get to your budget as a complete, running, driving, car. :(

Keep looking. Your perfect car is out there somewhere! :TU:

I think you're on the right track, for what my opinion is worth. I started by buying cars that were not running and incomplete, and it has cost a fortune to gather all the parts to make a complete car. Also, seeing as how you're in the northern midwest, be really careful about buying anything with extensive rust. I bought a 67 that I was going to use for a driver, only to find out that the whole back half of the car is shot, and it would need extensive repairs... not good.
Have you considered a '62? They are really different, but there was one in your price range that was on the board here not too long ago (can't remember where it was at).
Good luck, and I'll keep an eye out for something for you.

A couple of posters here have given some pretty good advice. If you want a car that you can drive while you fix it up you probably need to take out a loan and get something in the $6k-$8k range.

What you will get for <$2K is not going to be very reliable and so far from wanting to show it or race it that you will only be buying a lot of disappointment. My latest resto started as a $7K low miles Lark and I have more than exceeded that on body/paint/interior/rechroming/wheels/etc and I haven't even dropped a big block in it yet! This is not a cheap hobby.

  16. yea your probaly right but im gonna look for a while...it a take some time talking my wife into getting a loan.. i just paid off her chevy cav. so were kind of excited about not having a car payment. since we've had one for the past five years.. thanks for the feed back.

Don't dispair! There are decent deals out there if you have the patience. I bought this last july for $3600. While that is more than your stated budget, it goes to show that you can find good drivers for resonable $$. This car had 36000 miles on it when I bought it. I have since put another $1200 into it, but it was definitely daily driver material when I bought it. It's so nice, instead of making it a weekend car, I've been driving it most every day.

Read those freeby classified papers, Keep your eyes open when cruising residential areas, and go to swap meets (which is where I found this). I'm confident that you'll find something you can be proud to drive and fix up at the same time.

Here's is a car that would fit your budget trmendously well and if meets your requirements also, and for that matter, it would not take that much money and time at all to get it to be an excellent GS clone or a skylark "Road-ripper" at all, just a decent V8 and some other work, and you got yourself a good, fast, go-to-the-show Buick:TU:
