I received a response from Dan. The answer is: Multiple spark ignition boxes are ok as long as they DO NOT control the rate of advance. An ignition box/control that is programable to control the rate of advance WILL NOT be allowed. I'm sure that there will be more discussion on this in the future and ALL ignition boxes may be banned so be careful how you spend your money.
Where do you stop if you start changing the rules? Plug wire types? High voltage coils? Make sure the voltage is proper to the coil? (not bypassing the resistor/wire) Pure Stock works like it is, let's don't start changing rules. Next thing you know it'll turn into more rules. This isn't Congress. Clarifications are OK and obviously necessary as more and more people come into the sport, though.
If this is Pure Stock racing, and all the cars are at least 35 to 40 years old, I dont see where you should need a laptop to adjust your points.o No: Jim
I agree that the Pure Stock formula has worked well to this point. I also agree that "changes" can serve to upset the natural order of things, but like it or not "clarifications" can have the same potential effect. I'm not starting a movement here, but I have always thought that a few of the rules could stand to be tightened up a little now that P/S appears to have self-sustaining growth momentum. With more folks wanting to play, the opportunity for greater creativity with the rules increases (case in point). The simpler trick improvements that have been allowed to date are easily undone (ie., not expensive to reverse) if a rule change were implemented. Clear examples include the e-ignition systems and X-pipes. Some of these cars are frankly getting just too damn quick in the name of being number one over all. Removal of some of these permitted variations from stock would serve to cap or at least curb that competition and help keep the playing field level. Competition is great; but the legitimacy of the title "Pure Stock" is cheapened each time a permitted deviation helps push a car deeper into the 11's. Having said that, since the genie is already out of the bottle, this whole discussion is most likely just academic anyway.
I say get rid of ALL the electronic ignition stuff on vehicles that didn't have them in the first place. I'm sooo glad that I've always run points and have a rock-solid method for setting up those distributors. When you Mopar boys havta dig out your Prestolites, I will set them up for a reasonable rate .......
I've always felt that the only legitimate excuse for running a 6AL or similar in Pure Stock was to have a rev limiter to save our precious engines. But using that logic, lightweight pistons and rods should also be allowed. The Purer the betterer, I say. :TU: Never did understand the X-pipe acceptance.
Like I said, that is why I have one..... I cause enough damage with my mechanical ineptitude, no sense letting my lack of driving skill add parts to the pile But if the rules guys say it has to go......out it would come, with no arguement from me.
Donny, It would be nice if you would fill in the blanks with your car description. That way ,maybe, just maybe, I'd have a clear mental picture of what you're running there! Rich C.
135 pounds of spring pressure 30 weight oil 40 pounds air pressure bedix brake pads I can do this all night
OK, I see where this is going. The laptop are for Lm1 meters, I really "DONOT" want Julie trying to read them going down the track @120 mph. 1ST my "STICK" was too small so I pulled it out for all to see, anytime you want to see it just ask, so the next time you want to see my distributor no problem, I will be running points witch is down grade from the TI ignition, that I am running NOW! will all you mopar guy's "RUN POINTS" or you still want to run your 1973 ish electronic ignition, if so then all GM's should be able to run the 1973 ish HEI ignition. I talked to Dan to see if he would change the rules to you MUST run the distributor and or ignition you car left the factory with no conversion of any kind. Who did come up with the NHRA spec rule? The more you guy's talk the more I CANNOT wait for Sept, to think I was not going to touch the car at all but thank you.:Brow: Now Brian, what do you mean by pusher pumps?
I think it is the thing on the top of the keg, isn't it ??? I think this one is for a GTO with Tri-Power :beer :beer :beer
GTO Tri-Power:grin:. Okay Donny, I did not see that coming!:TU: Is there a fuelly version for you 'vette guys that's approved by PETAH?
You know......those electric gizmos that are required when an engine becomes so stock it exceeds the capability of the production fuel system. Or needed to prime the carbs.....I'm not sure. o No:
What Casey Marks said! LOL......... Didn't the Mopar guys use a LM1 on BK's cuda 2 years ago at Stanton? o No: Jim
let's face it..... the only laptop we knew in the 70's involved dancer's.... :TU: yeah, THAT kind... :Brow:
I hear there were a lot of pre-detonation problems back then, too....... something to retard the timing would probably have been welcome :eek2:
