After all this time I am still unsure how kneeling disrespects the flag. Turning your back, giving it the finger -- certainly disrespectful, but kneeling?

Poor NASCAR -- they are suffering right through increased ratings.
NASCAR ratings on Fox are up 8% since the sport’s return from coronavirus lockdown on May 17, according to Fox Sports EVP Michael Mulvihill, and are up 8% since the Confederate flag ban on June 10, Mulvihill says

Not sure that’s accurate.........”There were replies that ratings are up 8 percent since NASCAR has returned to the track from its COVID-19 hiatus, so there haven't been all-time lows.

Sports Media Watch, meanwhile, pointed out a few qualifiers (a caveat, as it put it) for the Indy numbers NBC announced:

    — Last year's Daytona race was run on Sunday afternoon after being rained out the Saturday night before. When compared to the 2018 Daytona July race, which was run as scheduled, the rating for Sunday's Indy race was flat and viewership was down 2 percent.

    — Sunday's race was the second-lowest watched and rated Brickyard 400 ever (excluding rainouts, per SMW), topping only last year's race. Compared to the last time the Brickyard 400 was run in July (the 2017 race), Sunday's ratings were down 21 percent and viewership was off 23 percent.“

So nascar has banned the Confederate flag has it?
They should talk to formula 1. Seeing their drivers taking a knee on the start finish line was laughable. Lewis Hamilton wearing a chain symbolizing slavery whils his apparel is emblazoned with Hugo Boss ( made his fortune supplying uniforms to the Nazi's using forced labor) and Mercedes who also used forced labor during the nazi regime .
Why can't we just have our sports without the populist political BS?

Odd that none of the people complaining about politics in sports are upset about the Trump 2020 car in last week's NASCAR race...

From the US Code, section 36:

    §301. National anthem
    (a) Designation.—The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.

    (b) Conduct During Playing.—During a rendition of the national anthem—

    (1) when the flag is displayed—

    (A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;

    (B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and

    (C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and

    (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

    Same flag code:
The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free. The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.

Don't see anyone ranting about that.

Same flag code (though possibly paraphrased):
The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.

Again, where is the righteous outrage?

I do rant (internally) when I see the flag made into clothing. I went to my boss thirty years ago when his merchandising staff used a flag in a display (he agreed and made them remove it). I’m not going to pick a fight with a redneck on the beach over his swimsuit, though. My issue with kneeling during the anthem is the athletes who don’t realize that, when they’re on the field or track in uniform, they are employees who represent the wishes, ideals and standards of their employer and that employer’s customers. If any company can tell its workers ‘shave, bathe, smile, wear a dark suit, don’t curse,’ etc., then a team owner can damn sure say ‘we represent the USA here. Stand the f*ck up!’.
If the aggrieved wants to protest or write letters or volunteer during his off time, good for him. If he does it on the clock, and his boss allows it, I’ll look for some other business to support.

Times change and behavior changes, you can either adjust to today's norms or spend your time talking about how much better it used to be. We don't evolve in a linear fashion nor does any of us get to pick what changes most or least.

I have pretty much given up on all professional sports for a host of reasons, mainly over paid babies that complain about everything and lecture fans about righteousness while they live a life of excess and self absorption, I am getting too old for phonies.
