I usually check this site for 455 related stuff, but I have a nailhead question or two. Found a '63 Riv with a '66 (MW?) motor and dual quad setup with chrome housing and carter carbs. Tranny is a th400,I haven't checked numbers, but I believe it's a switch pitch. The body is full of filler and has flat sheet metal on driver's floor. It has a fresh paint job that is already bubbling. Rear window has typical rust and shoddy repair. Interior is fair with a console and minor seat wear. He claims the car drives fair and runs well and the radiator is being repaired then I can drive it. If the motor and tranny run well what's a good price? He's asking $4000 and already refused my $1800 as it sat offer. I'd probably pull the motor and tranny for something else and put a 401/2 speed setup back in and drive or sell the car. Thanks for any input and I enjoy the site and will post pics of my 455 powered '67 Lark conv when the motor is in.

For reference, I bought my old 64 Riviera as a running car with 401, 2 barrel (yes, it must have been swapped for some crazy reason), needing body repair in the floors, windows and quarters and well worn and some water damaged interior for $1500. It was a pretty rusted body and bad interior, but sound drivetrain. I fixed the rust, painted it and it became a nice car with crappy interior.

If you pull that drivetrain, I would not put another dynalsow in that car, stick with a ST-400. Dynaslows are crap vs the ST-400.

As for a price on that car, it is hard to make exact judgement without more details, but I would say that up to $2500 is still decent price for you :beer $3000 would be about equal :Do No: and $3500 is more fair to the seller :moonu: . $4000 is dreaming :Dou:

I bought my 65 Riviera for $2700, and I live in one of the more expensive places to buy cars. It looks great from 20', has a decent interior with a working 8 track, but obviously has bondo cracks and minor rust. The trans was perfect as was the rear diff, but it had a flat cam. It actually ran fine but I rebuilt the motor (original) anyway.

If the paint's bubbling on this car you're looking at, it hasn't been loved. I wouldn't give him a dime over $3k. And I think $2500 is more reasonable.

I always look at the value of a vintage car as the sum of it's parts minus 25%. MW code motor was originally a single 4v 425. A good running, clean dual quad 425/st400 combo will bring at least 2k. If it has any other good parts I wouldn't hesitate to drop $2500 on the car.

I went back for the fifth time to look at the car and try to get it for $2600 or less and it was gone. Didn't really bother me,but it's the second 425 dual quad package I've missed out on. I'll get it someday, I just need to quit being so cheap. I'd like to find a motor and tranny together, but the last two have had rusty cars attached to them. Thanks for your replies.
