Just wondering if some of y'all could broaden my mind a bit about pressure plates? Is there a difference in the spring pressure from a 4 cylinder motor pressure plate vs a 6 cylinder vs a 8 cylinder motor pressure plates? In theory could a pressure plate from a 4 cylinder motor be used on a 8 cylinder motor? If not please explain why not. Keith
The total clamping force would be a combination of spring pressure and AREA (diameter) of the disc/pressure plate assembly. You could have the same spring pressure on a 9" vs an 11" plate/disc, but the 11" would have considerably more holding power due to having more surface area. Additionally, some pressure plate designs include counterweights to provide extra clamping force as the rpm's increase.
Im sure you could run one but unless you baby it you will smoke it up. Put 2 side by side and inspect them.
