Depends on the OPEN carrier you are using...Measure the cross pin shaft the spiders ride on if it is .733 ish it might work. IF you have the larger .795 shaft it will not
Richmond only makes the Power trax NO SLIP for the pontiac .795 open unit.

the 1940 is for a chevy (it is a LOCK RIGHT UNIT) and the side gear spline will be a bit loose and cross shaft is small .733 ish. Jim

so if its a .733 or so i can make the pont unit work?
so the splines wont mesh on the 1940 and strip out then right
whats difference in no slip and lock right units
ill do some more research on both
just thought this would be a good locker because it would work with any gear combo or carrier right?

Yes the power trax will work with any 2 3 4 series open unit. SO in that aspect it is a good locker.
This locker does click in cornering to release the axles so they do not bind.
A LSD Limited Slip Differential is a Clutch cone or worm gear helical SMOOTH non clicking locker which most factory rears are installed with.

Power trax locker are a MORE positive locking unit on a straight away making them great for weekend warriors (drag race) and still driving the street.

.733 cross shaft unit will work with the Chevy unit 1940
.795 cross shaft unit will work with the no slip Pontiac unit

NO SLIP unit is a refine lock right unit NO SLIP unit turns one full revolution before it clicks to lock the axle shaft back into drive position again. This make s the NO SLIP more quiet and less wear unit...Just as strong.

Lock right 1st design. Unit locks and unlocks every tooth when turning the corner to release and lock drive axle shaft side gears in and out to turn the corner. Causes more noise and slightly wearing unit quicker down the road in time.

NO SLIP unit runs in in the 400 -480 price range NEW depending on where you buy
Lock right unit from 300-375 depending on the place bought.

These unit are popular because they do make for easy posi install and as you stated you can use your existing gear ratio with out any reset-up of ring and pinion.

Good luck on your choice...If you need a quote give a PM will do. :) Jim

I had to stick my original pin (.735 - 4.8 inches) vs the new .800 that came in the kit but wouldnt fit .....BUT its been fine...not telling you this is what to do just saying mine has survived ...listen to Monzaz he is the expert.....
