Well..... Just another delay at the speed shop..... my engine is on the dyno and I have a bad but new Powermaster mini starter! :spank:

Just my luck! Now for the warranty! I guess a $239 starter is not good enough! I hope they stand behind it. I will be on the phone with Powermaster first thing Monday morning. Meanwhile I will have to have them ship overnight a new one to the speed shop to get on the motor to finish the break in and dyno!

    uhhhhhhh! :af:

They are good group from my experience, I spoke with them about my 9511 needing to be further back off flexplate an old "poston" sfi plate btw remedy was I had friend machine me a .095 bronze space as the supplied spacer didn't provide enough clearance. Seemed helpful and willing to help any way they could good luck

They refuse to use a stock starter to fire it for dyno pulls?

A stock starter won't clear my headers

I went to NAPA and ordered part number 246-5115..It was in stockso no having to wait for deliveries/delays.. Its a PG260 mini starter for a 1995-96 5.7 Buick Roadmaster..

Took it home and it bolted right up to a 10.6 CR 455 Buick and has worked great for 5 years now..

$189 with no core charge and Brand New..

Got the return authorization to return the starter and get a refund under warranty. I had another one shipped overnight to the speed shop to finish the dyno. Just another day in the world of delay!

I went to buy the rebuilt unit today and it only has 3 terminals on the solenoid instead of 4 - 2 large and 1 small. With only one small terminal, how do you wire these up on a 72 GS that originally had 2 small terminals? Only hook up one of our small wires?

Can't find where I had it but I use a starter for a 95 Pontiac Firebird from Autozone. Bolted right up with clearance.

That's the same part number as the caprice. Both had LT1 engines. Anyway, here is a picture of that starter. Only one small terminal. How do we wire it into our cars?

I have that very model Powermaster on my 430. I put it on 4 years ago..hasn't given me any trouble to date. Sounds like a Camry, until the engine fires up. ;)

I hope you get your replacement in, soon, and have no more problems.

    Hey,

Received yesterday my new powermaster 9511 because from my old starter the solenoid was broken.

The manual is not very helpful, I see on the 9511 only 2 terminals.

    How you connect it?

Batt goes to the large lug as does the other two that's crimped together,..large purple wire goes to the other smaller lug,...yellow is only used if you run points therefore it's not used on that starter or any starter unless you run points

    Thanks.
I build as the manual said a diode between the coil and starter but maybe bad question but goes the diode on the battery terminal or ignition terminal on the starter?

Sebastian, are you running points or electronic ignition in the distributor? You need to answer that question BEFORE we can advise you.

Sorry Larry. I'm running the old distributor with points.

OK, so you want to run the yellow wire originally attached to the "R" terminal to the solenoid activation terminal along with the purple wire. Put a diode inline with the yellow wire, the band of the diode facing the coil.

Hm serious I buyed the diode but engine works without diode and I also leave the yellow wire.

That starter was a great investment, my engine never starts so easy and fast. I'm happy that I don't buy a remanufactured one.

    Thanks all for your help.
