    John,
To the best of my knowledge, GM made p/w motors a pretty much universal fit throughout all their lines from about '58 or '59 thru mid '70's. They are specific to either left or right side however. I see no problem with this swap.
Do make sure to check the wiring first though, often the wire(s) break down from opening and closing doors. Also check the switch, sometimes the contacts get dirty and/or break.

    Good Luck,
    Tom

Thanks Tom. I checked the switch by bypassing it. Then ran jump wires to the motor. Last, I ran an extra ground wire to the motor. Nothing worked. Then I hit the door hard where the motor mounts and it tried to work. It is very weak, and stops requiring me to hit it again. What do you guys think??

One more thing. I was always under the influence that the rear motors were better replacements because they were not used as much. Is this true or an old wives tale?

It needs new brushes and the commutator needs to be cleaned.

Thanks Jim. Would you fix it, or replace it with a used one that I already have?

Do a search on this as I have posted about this subject when I had to rebuild mine. The motors were basically the same for years, except for the plug harness, which they would change every so often. A spare motor, soldering iron, and some emery cloth is all you really need to revive them.

    John,
Since you have spare motors, try plugging you door wiring into a spare, ground it to the door, and hit the switch!! If it's good, it will spin like ten bears:Brow: Be sure to lube the gears before installing though.
Watch out for sharp edges when changing it, I've gotten a few nasty scratches from doing this:af:

Where would I buy brushes for the power window motors on my '71 GS convertible?

    Thanks
